A Utah man made it clear how he felt when he paid a disputed $25 medical bill with nothing but pennies - 2,500 hundred of 'em.

For his trouble, he was charged with disorderly conduct.

The Deseret News of Salt Lake City reports Jason West went to Basin Clinic in Vernal on May 27 prepared to dispute an outstanding $25 bill.

Assistant Vernal Police Chief Keith Campbell says that after asking staff members whether they accepted cash, West dumped 2,500 pennies on the counter and demanded that staff count them.

Campbell says the incident upset staff because pennies were strewn about the counter and floor, and West's action served "no legitimate purpose."

One of these days, I am going to go buy a new car with quarters. How fun would that be.

last time i checked a penny was still a legal form of money..........but i am not sure one can demand someone to count a form of payment, they can ask for a receipt but it is up to the business owner to do so

That sounds like something I would do. Nothing illegal about it. Maybe this guy only has pennies and is his only form of payment.

Either way, this is classic. I'd love to do this one day.

Exactly, you can pay however you want..But the pennies have to be rolled..You cant dump a bag of pennies out and say count them..

Sounds like the guy is crazy...Working in retail most of my life I know ppl will argue with just about anyone about anything...I have had ppl agrue with me about sales tax on an item...Do you really think I control that?

Guess this disgruntled customer decided to give them "25thousand pennies" for his thought" eh?

Sounds like the guy was being a total douchebag about it ... hence the disorderly conduct.

It's legal tender. So he must have been a douche about it.

IMO whoever said they need to be uniformly rolled was right on. I'd think if he presented them in a stack and then asked for a receipt knowing they'd have to at least spot count it, it would have achieved his objective.
