From Michael Felger's notebook column in the Herald:

If Romeo Crennel doesn't get a head coaching job, the Patriots [stats, news] have made sure he won't be leaving the side of Bill Belichick [news].

The Pats defensive coordinator, whose contract was due up after the season, confirmed last night that he had signed a new three-year extension with the Patriots.

Terms were not available, but it stands to reason that Crennel's yearly salary will be in the $1 million range, which is what other top coordinators make around the league.

Crennel interviewed with five teams for their head coaching vacancies during the bye week, but three of those - the Giants, Falcons and Cardinals - filled their openings. He remains alive with Chicago and Buffalo, although the Bills are said to be favoring Pats offensive coordinator Charlie Weis
