View Full Version : Did we lose our 4th rounder in the Reggie Bush trade?

Sorry to make a post about this, but I was looking all over to see what we gave up to get Reggie Bush, and it just says, "A future undisclosed draft pick." Does anyone know if we lost our 4th rounder in 2012 for Reggie? Hope not.

I thought it was something like we swapped picks in the 6th round and gave them Jon Amaya.

I saw somewhere where Amaya was involved in the deal but I thought I saw that we gave them our 4th rounder and they gave us a 6th rounder? Hope this is not the case. When I google "Reggie Bush trade" I can't find one site that clears this up.

It was either a 5th round swap or a 6th round swap. I don't think it was a 4th to 6th round swap. And it definitely involved sending them Jon Amaya.

No we swapped 4ths. We do have one , but it's the Saints and the Saints have ours... I think. We def didn't lose a pick. We swapped picks

Incorrect, we gave up a 4th, got a 6th back.

About 90% sure its our 4th.

Btw, I wouldn't say we "lost" it. Well worth it so far.

I'm looking but I don't know how you guys can feel so confident in this price tag. I'm seeing no confirmations whatsoever, and rumors of everything from a 4th round pick to a 6th round pick, and I'm not even seeing (anywhere) this report of a swap of 4th for 6th round picks.

This one says Jon Amaya and a 6th round pick:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/788466-miami-dolphins-2011-report-card-complete-grades-for-the-entire-offseason/page/5

You have a commenter HERE (http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports_football_dolphins/2011/11/miami-dolphins-not-ready-for-spoiler-role-yet.html) saying that it's a conditional 6th round pick that could become as much as a 4th round pick if Bush has a huge year (which he's not, not really).

I personally believe it's a conditional pick. It's the only explanation for why NOBODY has confirmed what the picks were. The only reason neither team would want to release that information would be because of conditions applied to the trade that they don't want the public to know about. Otherwise someone would have confirmed the exact details by now.

conditional pick that makes sense...and bush has put up some better #'s rushing the ball at least yardage wise than i think most of us expected...so depending on what that # is we could be looking at a 4th rounder if thats accurate

ehhh...but your source is bleacher report...and i don't trust anything from them

I don't trust anything from them either but there is quite literally NO reputable source that has weighed in on what the exact terms of the trade were.

And so I'm just using power of deduction here. The only reason in my mind that would be the case would be if the pick was conditional and the Dolphins didn't want the conditions of the trade to be a story at any point during the season (e.g. "the Dolphins stopped handing Reggie Bush the ball because they didn't want to trigger the 5th rounder into becoming a 4th rounder").

You would think there would be an official site which listed trades and what was acquired or given up in player deals, but I still cannot find out what we gave up for Bush. Is there an official draft site which shows what picks we have in 2012?

Reggie Bush is traded to the Miami Dolphins in a rare sign and trade deal for a 4th round pick and safety Jonathan Amaya as a replacement for Usama Young.

With all due repsect Chris, I wouldn't say SaintNewsNet is a reliable source of information regarding trades...it a Saint's fan website. Bleacher Report is also often wrong in what they report. I checked the 2012 NFL Draft on Wikipedia and there is no Reggie Bush to the Saints for a 4th rounder and Amaya transaction listed. It just lists this for the 4th round -

Round four

Atlanta → Cleveland (PD). See Round One: Atlanta → Cleveland above
Baltimore → Buffalo (PD). Baltimore traded this selection to Buffalo for wide receiver Lee Evans (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Evans_(American_football)).[source 2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_NFL_Draft#cite_note-7)
Oakland → Washington (PD). Oakland traded this selection to Washington for quarterback Jason Campbell (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Campbell).[source 3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_NFL_Draft#cite_note-8)
Tampa Bay → Philadelphia (PD). Tampa Bay traded this selection to Philadelphia with a fourth-round pick in 2011 (116th overall, Philadelphia selected Casey Matthews (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casey_Matthews)) for a fourth-round pick in 2011 (104 overall, Tampa Bay selected Luke Stocker (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luke_Stocker)).
In the UNDETERMINED trade category was the Bush to Miami deal - Miami → New Orleans (PD). Miami traded an undisclosed selection to New Orleans for running back Reggie Bush (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reggie_Bush).

I KNOW I have read that it was our 4th for their 6th, multiple places... But, I honestly can't find it anymore.

Anywho, considering how he is turning out, Bush and a 4th for Amaya and a 6th is a flat out STEAL.

I was NOT down with the trade when it happened. I have harped on Bush's downfalls since before he was drafted, yet, you don't often get the chance to trade for a dynamic 1000 yard rusher via a backup safety and 4th round pick let alone get a pick in exchange.

First off, nothing is official on the compensation we gave up. It could be a 3rd or 4th, it could be a 6th or 7th. The only thing that seems clear is that, we "swapped" picks and that they are conditional, and the terms of those conditions have not been disclosed.

Everything else is speculation, maybe accurate speculation (that is up for debate), but speculation none the less.

I think it was a good trade just from the sense that Miami needed a player like Reggie on this team. Dude is a hard worker and he brings electricity to the offense. Not trading for him and even assuming he gets cut, you risk getting into a bidding war with another team and you lose out. I think Miami did well to secure his services.

Hopefully the conditions are more "playoffs", "leading rusher in the AFC", etc.

It's never been confirmed, which to me means there are conditions attached to the trade.

And Reggie is just 27 yards away from 1000 yards. I'm beginning to worry the Saints are going to end up with some ridiculous pick like our 2nd rounder.

I never implied that they were reliable. CK wrote that he hadn't found "anywhere" a mention of the Saints getting our 4th rounder. I was just showing that I didn't spend any time searching and found at least one source where it was written. I'm also not sure what draft pick the Saints got because it was undisclosed. However, leaks happen and there are a lot of people saying it was a 4th. But who knows.

It must really be bothering those who were against Bush's trade that he's doing so well. I hope all of the naysayers and haters (you know who you are) enoy their crow.
