As Republican leaders push the party to coalesce around Mitt Romney’s candidacy, a question lingers: Is Romney’s disconnect with sizable numbers of GOP voters based on ideology or instead on religious belief? The answer: Both. Romney’s weakness among evangelicals is the more critical stumbling block. Combining results from all primaries and caucuses to date for which we have exit polls, he’s lost very conservative evangelicals by 18 points to Rick Santorum, while winning all other slices of the pie – somewhat conservative and moderate evangelicals, and all non-evangelicals regardless of their ideology. http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/03/romneys-republican-doubters-is-it-religion-or-ideology/

I think the republicans are warm about Romney. Ultimately they will vote for him or the dog catcher instead of 4 more years of ruin.

While some of their hesitance to Romney comes from his Mormonism, Rick Santorum is saying the kinds of crazy things that these people have always went for (Huckabee in 2008, Buchanan in the nineties). They will complain for the next couple of months until Matt Rhoades and the rest of the staff remind those people that Romney is white and will be the "anti-abortion" candidate.
