Its reported by green bay fans that hes on the trade block.....im not really sold on it just yet but if this is true i can almost guarantee you that james jones will be dealt to miami, it makes perfect since, he fits our offense and his relationship with philben and our need at WR

@OmarKelly (http://twitter.com/OmarKelly) RT @Robi2184: There has been word in the Green Bay forums James Jones is on the trade block» no way. That's crazy stupid fan talk.

James Jones has big time ability but his inconsistent hands and mental lapses make him a totally unreliable player. That's why the Packers used a high draft pick on Randall Cobb. They got tired of 60 yard touchdowns being dropped.

This WR core needs competence and stability, not potential. It has plenty of the latter already.

I like the idea of Jones, but he gets serious cases of the dropsies. Unless the player is named Greg Jennings I'm not going too crazy over the GB receivers, although they all have outstanding qualities.

I like our young Wr group. I'd rather us stick with them and train'em up

Id only do it for a low pick. I think they just resigned him recently (last year i think) so depending on his contract also. Wouldnt be a bad idea.

Whoever complained about Marshall's hands...I don't want to hear from trading for Jones.

I asked a Green Bay reporter what were the chances of Jame Jones getting traded or released and was told that is not likely to happen. I was told if someone is cut from their WR core it will be Driver.

Yes, Jones does drop the ball too often for my liking, but it was still at a lower rate than Brandon Marshall AND Hartline.

Hartline - 7 drops, 35 catches
Marshall - 14 drops, 81 catches
Jones - 6 drops, 38 catches

How many times was Jones thrown to? How many times was BM thrown to?

How many Yards and completions does BM have per year? How about James Jones in a pass happy offense?

Comparisons are fun when you show only the stats you want.

I find it amazing that every player cut or on the trading block gets a thread. We are rebuilding the roster through the Draft!!! Though Jones is a good fit for the WCO, we have younger and cheaper options on the Roster. Let's see what Cunnigham and Mathews can do before we start throwing away our future picks!!! We're not a James Jones away from a Super Bowl.

Well, using simple math Jones was thrown to 44 times, he caught 38 thereby dropping 6 of them. Hartline was thrown to 42 times, he caught 35 dropping 7 of them. Marshall was thrown to 95 times, he caught 81 of them and dropped 14.

By percentage it's Hartline drops 16.7% of the passes thrown to him, Marshall drops 14.7% of the passes thrown to him and Jones drops 13.6% of the passes thrown to him. None of those are particularly good and you could argue that if Jones was thrown to more he would have as many or more drops than Marshall but in this instance he's a more reliable target than Hartline.

As for Jones and the "pass happy offense" he was the 4th receiver so he doesn't get on the field often, certainly not as often as the #2 receiver in Hartline, so despite Hartline being on the field more he was thrown to less...you can take that how you want. Could be Hartline is not very good at getting open, could be Marshall demanding the ball from his QB, could be a combination of the two. But then again, Hartline was 4th in catches on his own team despite being the #2 receiver....Marshall obviously was 1st with 81 catches, Bess was second with 51 catches and Bush was 3rd with 43 catches.

As for production Hartline caught those 35 passes for 549 yards, a 15.7 ypc average...and that's good...the bad is he only caught 1 TD (and has only 1 TD in his last 26 games). Marshall had a heck of a season as far as average goes, he caught 81 for 1214, a 15.0 ypc average for a guy that normally averages around 12 ypc....and he had 6 TDs which is about average for him. He has 34 TDs in 6 season...he's never been a big time scorer, he's career high is 10 TDs in a season back in 2009 and the 1214 receiving yards was the 3rd best of this career. James Jones, in limited playing time last year had 38 catches for 635 yards, a 16.7 ypc average and he scored 7 TDs...the same as Hartline and Marshall combined. He scored 5 TDs in each of the previous two seasons.

And that may be why he's on the way out. He used to be pretty sure handed but he's getting way up there in age. I think Jennings and Nelson will be the starters...it's going to take a very good offer to get Jones off of that team they normally like to be 4 or 5 deep in the receiving corp. Randle Cobb could become the #3 with Jones the #4. They have 14 WRs on their roster right now.
