I wonder if Florio actually confirmed that it would be indeed a 60 yard field goal try? My guess is, it was a typo on the part of the Dolphins. If not, a head scratcher for sure.

Funny how when I listen to the radio, and I hear one of the commentators, in this case Andy Slater bitch about some stupid contest... it appears in this forum about 5 minutes later.

Once again... just having to find some other reason to pile on how much this organization sucks.

I wonder what it will be tomorrow.

I thought so too initially, but then I read the contest rules and it said 3 contestants will attempt a fieldgoal from the 50 yard line. It seems like too perfect of a number to be a typo. Did they mean 15 yard line?

Lol it is funny how many people bitched about Philbin micromanaging the players. This is the same thing....who cares! It is a stupid half time show. Maybe if nobody wins the money gets donated to charity or something like that. Either way, nobody who is not at the game will never even know about it. This is so ridiculous. 30 yards with the control of your hands vs 60 yards with the control of your foot hmmmmmmmm. I've hit full court shots all you need is arm strength but I can't hit no 60 yard field goal and only for 10k lol

I saw a game in Buffalo in wild wind. Selected fans could win a truck kicking a 30 yard field goal, but the ball had to land and stay in the bed of the truck. BTW, the kick was into the wind. I never saw a more impossible game to win.

My point is it is a stupid thing to worry about. Who cares what their halftime show is? Honestly, does it really matter? How many will even remember it by game time sunday? Of all the things to pile on the organization about, seems very low on the list. Just shows me how silly people are. As far as full court shots go, you need luck as well. I can throw a basketball the length of a court easily but to make a basket would be exceptionally difficult.

What? Fair question, we don't know who these people are. It is a stupid distance(if it is actually accurate and not just a misprint), but maybe these people had to qualify to even do this by hitting a long field goal to begin with.

Honestly, I don't really care. I care more about the 60 minutes of game play than halftime events. All true fans will be watching the game on Sunday and paying attention to that, the pregame and half time festivities don't really matter to the majority. Even if they are ridiculous.

Well of course the halftime show doesn't affect the outcome of the game. Who said anything about that?

This is about the organization doing more dumb **** and getting more negative media attention.

I mean who really sits down and dreams up some fan nailing a 60 yard field goal.

If you're even capable of kicking a football that distance, then you're capable of hitting a 40 yard field goal with some kind of consistency and would probably be playing on Sunday to begin with.

Man, thats why I dont even bother going to games anymore. Three hour drive, horrendous traffic in and out, 20-30 dollars for parking, drinks cost a million dollors, you sit so high the players look like twigs and tickets are still over 100 dollars, Its crazy! But its not like this is just the dolphins, its like this all over the country. Thats why the nfl is going to hell. Give me a cold beer in front of my HD tv with friends and family anyday. It seems to me someone took the idea of the half court shot and tried to translate that into the "half-court" field goal kick.

Not realizing its a hell of alot easier to shoot a ball from half court than to kick a ball 60 yards. Most people can shoot the ball from half court, just not accurate. What, like 1 in a million people might be able to kick the ball 60 yards?

You are giving yourself way too much credit. I have more important things to do thant to go out of my way to disagree with you just for the sake of it. I think a 60 yard field goal attempt to win money at halftime is silly and likely impossible. I also can't help smiling at so many people making such a big deal about it. Who really cares? Oh my God, a fan is going to attempt a 60 yard field goal to win money, Philbin picked up a piece of trash of the practice field on Hard Knocks and Ross is bringing in Cirque du Soleil in the offseason to use the stadium. Next we are going to start arguing between whether the stadium should have Pepsi or Coke at the concession stands. I don't know, but I would rather root/complain about the team and front office in terms of football than whether or not a wall at the stadium has aqua paint or orange paint on it. I guess I am just old fashioned.

isnt the NFL RECORD a 63 yard field goal? correct me if im wrong... but come on..... there are 1,000,000 other ways to give a fan a shot at 10k with having a 99% chance of failure rather than a 100%

Sorry, that type of deflective post doesn't work if I show up. You tried to fool a handicapper in the audience, and failed miserably.

I don't know anything about this contest but from sampling the thread quickly I can easily piece together what happened here: Others properly mocked the contest and particularly the obscene distance, which equated to a likelihood of success of literally less than .01. You instinctively adopted apologist mode and leaped into the thread, failing to grasp that the distance was the vital variable, the one that indeed could be in error. Instead, you assumed the organization was fool proof and asserted we don't know anything about the potential participants and their capabilities. Unbelievable. It's like requiring a sub-10 second 100 meters and fretting that we don't know the makeup of the field. They may be Olympic finalists.

Still, I was going to let it go minus comment until this post, the one I quoted above. Once others had mocked you for defending the contest, you scrambled for all related info and eventually stumbled across the information that the Dolphins had changed the distance. After all, you're the news poster, the guy who gets everything first. You were relieved nobody had updated the thread with the idea that 40 is the new 60, so you straightened your tie, wiped off the blood, and waltzed into the room with your convenient "guess" that the press release was inaccurate, and a change was forthcoming. You were determined to look good when somebody inevitably posted the update. The fact that it occurred only 7 minutes following your post, and in the subsequent comment, is all I need to know in evaluating the situation. This is a simple one, like Richard Floyd McCoy as D.B. Cooper.

I'm needed to help an ailing relative but I guarantee it somebody looks into the situation they discover that the 40 yard info was available elsewhere, and prior to Nublar's post at 4:12 PM. That would be a simple bet, and not a small one.

Mike McQueery just tweeted that he logged on to FH and heard "rhythmic slapping sounds" coming from the main forum. He clicked on this thread and claims he witnessed a handicapper abusing a moderator.

Let's get the thread back on track and refrain from the personal attacks. I have already proved Doogie's accusation to be false, so that should be the end of it.

they should have taken it a step further and gave away $1 billion for a 100 yard field goal.

Franchise is only worth a little more than $1B.

What if someone makes it?

If this type of gold is commonly found in vip I may have to join. You're a hell of a writer dooger

Nublar said it before the press release, but this guy said it before Nublar

My guess is, it was a typo on the part of the Dolphins

If by epic, you mean epic fail by Doogie, than yes epic. I already proved him wrong in my response. The fact that he took so much issue with what I said and ended up with egg on his face just makes me shake my head. However, there is no need to start taking personal shots at members and I don't wish to drag Doogie through the mud.
Not only was the post he put up absolutely hysterical, the abuse that guy put on you was so brutal that you had it moved to a forum called "the depths of the sea."

If the dirt were still on the field, someone would actually have a shot at making it.

Everyone saw that coming after that McQueery tweet.
