View Full Version : Republicans want to spy on what you read

I remember when the Republican Party believed in less government - personal liberty - and keeping the government from spying on it's citizens. How different things are today as the Republican congress blocked a measure that would have ended the government watching everything we read at the library and what we buy at book stores. Maybe if we had a president who was smart enought to read at a level above "My Pet Goat" we would have a government that had something better to do than spy on people who read books.

The terrorists who attacked us on 9/11 took flight classes, not library books.

Nowadays, the Libertarian party is the one that believes in less government. Sadly, many in the Republican Party don't give a **** about civil liberties and stuff like that. Republicans can say they believe in less government but the actions of many Republicans in politics speak differently.

The Constitution provides for privacy at home...if you are in a public library, that's public domain. If the Fed wants to know that I checked out The Once and Future King, they are free to do so.

Do you honestly think the President is stupid or dumb? I guess you are another one of these DEM's that doesn't get the fact that his public image is one of a Texas politician. You guys cannot be that dense to where you do not get that.

If you have nothing to hide what's the problem? I don't care if they know what I read or, I've got nothing to hide.

The terrorists who attacked us on 9/11 took flight classes, not library books.Excellent point. By the way, Dubya himself says, "Sometimes when I sleep at night I think of "Hop on Pop." He might be a little above "My Pet Goat" by now.

It's amazing to me that people are willing to see their freedoms slip away from them while the War against Terror preaches that it is THE fight for our freedom. The point is not about the Government having the ability to find out what you've been reading; it's about what they're going to do with that information once they have it, and who makes the decisions about the information they glean.

Why do you continue with this canard of the "Dumb President"?

The guy is probably 3 times as smart as you....Let me see....He has an MBA from Harvard, a Graduate degree from Yale......made enough money to live comfortable, managed to gain almost 50% ownership of a sports team....got elected governor of one of the largest states....Twice...and was elected president.....soon.....Twice.

You: just some misguided liberal on the Dolphins message board.

No that's what you got from what I typed. Most Texan/Southerners could give a fig about how they talk. When they talk they appreciate getting to the point and not trying to impress ppl with words. In short they appreciate action not words.

IMO you are showing your bias when it comes to southerners. I have no doubt you are an elitist.

Haven't you heard? He didn't earn any of that, his fathers $ bought him all those things. Some ppl just do not understand those schools are in no need of $, and they would never sell degrees. If someone graduates from those schools they earned it, only a fool would over look or lesson those accomplishments.

Some ppl just feel more comfortable thinking a fool whooped their political party’s butts. It makes no sense to me, but then again I'm not a DEM. If I was them I would at the very least build him up. At least that would help ease the embarrassment of their domination by him. Instead for some odd reason they'd rather think a buffoon has owned them for 4-years. DEM's always amaze me, they are their own worst enemy really.

It's the other way around brother. REP are not elitist, DEM's are. You know seeing as how most DEM see REP's as country boy redneck dumb azzes. This has been a major flaw within your political party for decades.

Different kind of elitist...the Left Wing mindset is that the Government Elite need to take care of all the stupid Americans who can't take care of themselves.

I'll agree with that and go one better: the Conservative mindset is that the Government elite need to screw all of the stupid Americans who can't take care of themselves.

Here's what I don't understand. The Conservatives in Government are all being run by the Big Business Lobby right? And that somehow makes them inherintly evil right? Correct me if I'm wrong, but if those big businesses didn't exist, where would everyone get a job? Do you own a small business? Do you work for one? If so, care to bet that you either buy from or sell to a Big Business?

We'd all work for the government and we'd then be socialist and/or communist. Hmmmm is that what they want? Makes you wonder.

Also Kerry is in deep with the cellular companies.

Actually the Big Business lobby doesn't real care which party is in office as they can throw enough influence around to get what they want when push comes to shove anyway. Now if you want to take a look at the people at the top of the organizational charts of these big businesses, you would find that they would prefer a Republican administration, because they tend to get taken care of on an individual basis with tax cuts. It's not evil by commision; it's evil by omission, as the everyday common joe with a wife and 1.9 kids ends up paying for the sins of the rich and powerful - witness Enron and the Texas Savings and Loan scandals for example. Throw Whitewater in there too so I don't get accused of the southern-bias liberal BS. People everywhere work for Big Business because that's what our society is evolving into- directly or indirectly. There is not much choice in the matter.

Business scandals/abuses are nothing new. Enron wasn't created overnight, that fraud was perpetrated over the course of years. Business DOES require oversite, and you can spot which politicians on BOTH sides of the isle deepest into their pockets by the ones who oppose that oversite.
