:roflmao:

Kevin Brown was one hell of a pick-up.

Way to make history, girls :spit:

Four straight wins with 2 of them comming in STANKee stadium. Sox win the Series 4-3.. What a thrilling comeback.. I gotta give the stanks credit though, they played a good first 3 games. Next up Cards/Stros... Could this be the year? I guess we'll find out soon enough..

First team in Professional sports(with the exception of Hockey, twice) to come back from an 0-3 deficit to win 4 straight games in a best-of-seven series.

Curt Shilling pitches a brilliant game 6 with practically no tendon in his ankle and blood leaking out of his sock.. Can't forget "Ortiz for Prez" and his 2 game winning hits in the same day to win games 4 and 5. I could go on and on...

All I can ask is: Can these Dirt Dawgs be stopped? Not likely.

ive never been a huge baseball fan
but this series has enamored me
at first i was rooting for the yankees
but then i came to my senses and
i decided not to hold it against the red sox that the pats are from boston
and once i let that go, their victory is a small solace to our misfortunate season

go boston!
and it feels very weird to say that

hey if boston can win the world series
we might still be able to go 10-6 and win the superbowl =)

When you are the New York Yankees, and you are up 3-0 on the Boston Red Sox, a team you have owned in the post season for a looong looong time....

It's the biggest meltdown in sports history....I dont care if they were a favorite, it's not like it was #1 USC playing against Middle Tennessee State here...the teams are evenly matched, Yankees probably more stacked...

It's the biggest meltdown in sports history....I dont care if they were a favorite, it's not like it was #1 USC playing against Middle Tennessee State here...the teams are evenly matched, Yankees probably more stacked...So the Yankees were more stacked, had home field advantage.......yet were the underdogs going into the series:confused: Can't have it both ways. You can't be a Favorite going into the series like the Red Sox were then claim the other team had the biggest meltdown in the history of sports. That is like Florida St playing Duke in football, winning on a last second field goal then storming the field to tear down the goal posts!

And the Yanks and Red Sox have only started playing in the Post Season since 1999. So this owning in the post season statement I don't get.

Don't get me wrong, great win by the Sox. They are the better team. But I don't get how the FAVORITES going into the series winning, make this the "biggest meltdown in the history of sports"

The history of sports is a lot to cover. Biggest meltdown in baseball......ok, maybe. But history of sports????!!! Uh, NO.

George can't get his hand on two things he needs to fix this team:

1) Any decent talent in the farm system

2) Our man Theo!

You'll continue to outspend us, but we'll continue to dominate you with a smaller payroll.

Pink_Dove
10-21-2004, 11:48 AM
George needs to fix his pitching...He never replaced the loss of Pettite and the Rocket...1 great pitcher and a very good one...Ironic, the 2 guys that were supposed to replace them Kevin Brown and Vasquez were responsable for the loss in game 7...
But overall IMO the reason the Yanks lost was the poor job the bullpen did...
When the Yanks were the best team in baseball they had amazing depth and a very good bullpen...Although not a fan, I cringed every time I saw Flash Gordon taking the mound in the 8th...
Remember the days of Mendoza, Stanton and Nelson...Cashman and Co. have failed to replace them with quality pitchers..Tanyon Sturtze ? Flash Gordon ?
The Yankees will be back because George will probably double the payroll once again, let's hope at least for Yankee fans he does it wisely...

Also what's the Red Sox payroll ? Red Sox fans speak as if these guys had the payroll of a Minnesota or a KC but I'd say they are DEFINATELY top 3...
Pedro, Schilling, Ramirez, Foulke all those guys were bought as well...

Pedro, Schilling, Ramirez, Foulke all those guys were bought as well... We gotta spend what we gotta spend just to keep up with the Yankees.

The Marlins or another low budget team don't have to worry about 20 games a season, battling for the division every year against a team built with all stars.
Sure every once in awhile, you might get lucky and the bounces will go your way, and you might be able to slay the giant but, if you want to compete year after year, then you're gonna have to pay up to match the talent that the yankees have.

As for the yankees pitching, they are going to have to get used to it....Vasquez just signed a MAJOR deal with them this year....Brown is under contract next year for 14 million dollars.....who they gonna trade him to.....Hernandez....Giambi.....Sheffield....A-rod....Jeter.....all under contract for 2005 and beyond.

the yankees for once may be stuck with no way to improve except to add to their already obcene payroll.

If they do that they will be laughed at by everyone in the league.

The thing I love the most about the yankees is that they spend so much more than any other team, that this season, with 100 wins, can be looked at as, nothing but a failure. You outspend the entire league and then you can't even make it to the series, that is downright embarassing if you ask me.

Some of you arnt even red socks fans but a fan for another team well you guys can laugh and we deserved to be laughed at but just remember how far your team is. For all of the REAL Red Sox fans you guys deserved to win the series, we got man handled the last 4 games but slow down on the smack you guys still havtn won a title since 1918. Fot months now youve run around with "1918" in HUGE bold type face, You stick it Red Sox fans face when ever you can, and now after you lose you come around with your tail between your legs thinking "maybe If I give kudos to the Red Sox fans, They will go easy on us."

BULLSH!T. go run and hide with the rest of your foul smelling troupe.

Imagine feeling what your feeling now throughout your life. You grow up a Sox Fans, You marry a Sox fan you start a family. You watch you father die never having seen the Sox get the better of the Yankees. And through the years you wonder if your grandkids will ever see the one thing sports related that you and your father never did.

As far as the Sox being favorited in this series? what games did you watch? The Yankees took the Division, not the Red Sox. The Yankees had home field advantage, Not the Red Sox. The Yankees were up, three games to zero. One strike away from going to the World Series for the 40th time. the Yankees had just crushed the Red Sox with the most post season runs ever scored. the last 2 games were in on their home field. There isn't a person I have met that thought the Red Sox were going to win that series after game three. In fact the sweetest thing about this, is the surprize factor.

NO ONE EXPECTED IT! http://www.finheaven.com/images/imported/2004/10/RedSox32GIF-1.gif (http://javascript:smilie(':Redsox:'))

Your team has gotten progressively worse over the last 4 years. Not better. Tell me what WS the Skanks won since 2000? Payroll has gotten higher with nothing to show for it.

Maybe it's the curse of Giambi because hell knows when he was with the A's they never went to the WS, then to the Skankees they haven't won nada since he came. And now looks like deqath warmed over since coming off 'roids.
OR maybe the curse of A-Rod-same thing. Seattle? Squat. Rangers? Squat. Skankees....so far squat. He's one of the highest paid players who can't hit with RISP. I'm sure Sox fans are rejoicing they didn't sign him.

What I don't get is the Yankee Hater (not red sox fan) who wants a salary cap but still roots against the Yanks.

Want a salary cap in baseball...........have the Yanks win the world series for about 5 straight years, already after winning 4 of 5 in the late 90's.

Red Sox fan roots against the Yanks. A smart Yankee hater who could care less about Boston, but who wants to see the Yanks fall from the top and wants a salary cap so their small market club has a shot, should just root for them to win for about 3 or 4 years straight.

Then you get your salary cap. Then you put the Tampa's, Seattle's, KC's, Pittsburgh's, and so on ALL ON THE SAME PLAYING FIELD WITH THE YANKS!

Everytime the Yanks lose, it just means you will never see a salary cap in baseball as it proves money can't buy a ring. LA has proved it. Mets have proved it. Boston has proved it. This year, Yanks have proved it.

If you look at MLB today. You can take NY, Boston, and Anheim and I would bet a large sum of money that 2 of those 3 will be in the ALCS every year. They have the most money. Aren't affraid to spend it. And those 3 will just pass the crown around until some change is made in the system.

I am a Yankee fan that goes back to the early-mid 80s and being Yankee fans has been in my family forever. We NEVER cared about the Sox, I never cared about the Sox growing up except that they beat us out a few times in the 80s for the AL East crown. Yankee fans are NOT obsessed w/ the Red Sox, it is the other way around. Sox fans are obsessed w/ the Yankees which is why they rioted after winning the ALCS and why Sox fans think they have won something. The curse is about not winning the WS not about beating the Yankees. This "rivalry" is so overblown, it was great in the 70s and it's been great the last 2 years but outside of that it's nothing. growing up I hated the Blue Jays, Orioles, Mets, Tigers and others more than I hated the Red Sox. I am upset more that the Red Sox are made up of a tam of classless punks than I am about losing to the Red Sox. If they were a classy bunch it would be easier.

I am a Yankee fan that goes back to the early-mid 80s and being Yankee fans has been in my family forever. We NEVER cared about the Sox, I never cared about the Sox growing up except that they beat us out a few times in the 80s for the AL East crown

OH so then you became a fan when the Skankees SUCKED? Mid-80's the Skankees were so bad they couldn't give tickets away. So what pennants did the Red Sox exactly beat the Skankees for? In 1986 they were 5.5 games out of 1st. Not exactly a close race.

1980-finished 1st and were sweeped by KC in the ALCS
1981-finished 3rd
1982-finished 5th
1983-finished 3rd
1984-finished 3rd
1985-finished 2nd
1986-finished 2nd
1987-finished 4th
1988-finished 5th
1989-finished 5th

Not a stella decade for the Pinstripes was it?

And in the 70's the only two good years were 77 and 78. In 76 they were sweeped by Cincy in the WS. Didn't even eek out one win.

But looking at the Stats from back in the 70's and 80's makes me want 2 divisions again. East and West. That's it. None of this pansy "wildcard" ****. (Even though the Sox were the wildcard team this year ;)) Either you fought hard and won your divison or you didn't. THAT was Baseball.

No we weren't great as I grew up and that's why I appreciate this past decade. I never saw them in the postseason until 1995 and I an remember games as far back as the early 80s(I was awate of the '81 WS but don't remember specifics other than what I knew now). We had alot of good hitting teams w/ no pitching(sound familiar?) b/c George went our and got big name bats. It wasn't until george got suspended that Gene Michael and Buck Showalter were able to build the dynasty which George has since ruined.

As for the WC, if we had it in the 80s I would have seen a few postseasons and if we didn't have it now we'd probably have a few more Championships b/c we wouldn't have lost Boston, Florida and Anaheim the past 3 years.
