After so many missed tries, the New York Yankees (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/mlb/teams/yankees) might really have a trade for Randy Johnson (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/mlb/players/4288).

The Arizona ace was on the verge of joining the Yankees in a three-team megadeal that also includes Shawn Green (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/mlb/players/5179) and Javier Vazquez (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/mlb/players/5947), sources told The Associated Press on Thursday night.

Green would go from Los Angeles to Arizona, and Vazquez would move from the Yankees to the Dodgers in the trade that would put Johnson in Yankee pinstripes.

"It is going to happen," a source familiar with the negotiations said on the condition of anonymity. Another team source said the principals were in place for the trade to be completed.

The worse trade ever for the yanks . they lose the best prospects they have. They gain a 41 yr old pitcher who has to sign an extension, they'd have to give money to pay vazquez's contract, and their rotation will be very old AGAIN. What would be smarter, would be to sign Milton, he's much cheaper, much younger and has a ton of upside on a team that scores over 7 runs a game. whats the better rotation...

Mussina(38), johnson(41) pavano, wright, brown(40)
Mussina, pavano(28), wright(29), milton(27), vazquez(28)....

FinFanGirl, you know we're tight, but you wrong. This is the best move the Yankees could of made this off-season. Schilling is shaking in his boots. Losing Vazquez is no big deal, we could buy another Vazquez any off-season. Randy Johnson is one of a kind. Check the stats!

Milton's ERA was close to 5.00 last year and that was in the N.L with no DH! Put Milton in the A.L and he would be a BUST.

And don't go by the age of Randy Johnson. Some guys (ala Roger Clemens) get better with age. Randy is one of those guys. He is still one of the Top 3 pitchers in all of baseball.
