Why does it seem that every player that comes out of that school is incredibly raw, an underachiever, yet has unlimited potential?

Ronald Fields this year, last year Tommy Kelly, Justin Jenkins, the year before that Donald Lee, Jason Clark.

All these guys mid-round prospects with huge potential...

Coaching.

MSU had a strength and conditioning coach that try to implement a Navy Seal's type of workout. It may be fantastic for defending the country, but it doesn't build a lick of functional football strength.

Then, on the field, players rarely developed from their freshman seasons to their senior seasons. Much like Miami, those guys were expected to play up to their talent. The defensive linemen this season were amazed that there were actually techniques to this game.

Jackie Sherrill taught that program how to win, but he didn't do much in the way of player development.
