Jets fans turned us into them!!

I became a fan in 1972 watching the Fins in the superbowl at my grandfathers house. In 1976 or 77 a Friend of my dad's who was good friends with Jim Mandich set it up that he took me to the Giants vs Fins game at the Meadowlands, I believe it was a preseason game but not sure. I got to wear his Superbowl ring (which went over three of my fingers very easy being 13 years old) and he gave me a signed picture personalized to me, which to this day is over my PC in my home office. That cemented it!!

Growing up in the early 70's when I was a mere 9 the dolphins were the team. I started liking them due to Zonk, Greise and Shula. Haven't quit yet. They are the team and I think greatness is about to embrace them with Nick leading the way.

I became a phin fan because of my dad.... well pretty much my whole family on my dads side. I grew up routing for the fins and it just stuck. I guess its just a family thing.

It's great living around this area because of the division rivals. Theres always a new york team on tv.

I'm from Lakewood - Ocean County.

Grew up in South Belmar (Monmouth County).

I've been meaning to post about this.......and now seems like the perfect time being that all NJ finfans are sounding off........

Have any of you heard of Bar Anticipation (Bar A) in Belmar?? It's the most popular bar at the Jersey Shore....anyway, their football Sunday's are pretty banging. they have two different bars set off, one for Steeler fans and one for Raider fans (main bar area is Jets/Giants)....they draw a huge crowd.....I think it's actuallly the headquarters for some NJ Raiders fan club.....anyway.

Talking to the manager last year he said that they have one more bar that could be set aside specifically for Dolphin fans if we had abot 10-12 people every week. I only really know of myself and 2-3 other guys who are finfans around here.....but if any of you are close (I saw a couple people from Brick and Toms River in this thread) we could get this thing hooked up. Let me know if anyone is interested.

Hello All,

Newly registered member who is actually living in Chicago but began my
worship of the fins in NJ about 30yrs ago.

Just to throw this out I believe the that Saban is going to stay the course
and draft Ronnie Brown even if Ricky does return because I believe Gus or
AJ can steer the ship with a good running game. The same issue rears it's ugly heads though,Do we as fans want another Fiedler(Manage the game) or do
want a playmaker to get us to the next level. Is AJ that man??? He did show
some signs of brilliance last year but he is still green etc... no matter I believe we running back this year and we go 8-8 and then concentrate on QB next year. THoughts???:cooldude:

I was born and raised in North Miami; family moved to Southern NJ when I was 10, and I felt like the only Dolphins fan in the state then (took quite a verbal beating after the '82 and '84 Super Bowls). I moved north 5 years ago because I was working in Manhattan. Nice to know that there are so many Fin Fans in the area.

Nice to know about the Draft Day thing in East Hanover; I might just be showing up for that with the wife. :)

i hated teel. As either a Sophomore or Freshman he lost the state finals for us when our coach decided to take out Levy and have Teel hand the ball off to end the game. Teel fumbled and then the kicker for Holy Cross i think wont he game with something like a 60 yard field goal. Hes also a cocky *******, and only looked so good because of Toll (3 tds in the all american game his senior year) and now plays for Boston College as a LB and Liverpool who got drafted by the Seattle Mariners out of high school.

Grew up in Bayonne...

Now live in Forked River...

That's "Fork"-"ed" River to the uninformed...

Personally, I would never go back to live in Northern Jersey...but I guess that's for another thread...

Became a Fin Fan in '71...

As a matter of fact, I still have the newspaper clippings from the Jersey Journal the day after the Cowboys beat the Fins in the SB...

I was in Miami for my first game Oct '72 against the Bills.

i hated teel.

Maybe so, but then he won one and was on the #1 HS team in the country I believe!

it's still way to early to plan a fantasy draft. i would suspect that if there is on that is should be broken into regions. for example, south jersey should have it's own league because it will be difficult to get everyone from the state in one venue.

i would suggest... for anyone interested in the South Jersey area that we meet at a bar on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon and have a draft and share some Dolphins thoughts over a few beers. We could bring all of our draft supplies and then transpose that information into a yahoo or free cbs sportsline league. Or we could pony up for a pay site. Personally I'd like to play for money and I think it makes it much more interesting and forces people to stay active. I was in a great league with my previous employer and they used www.rtsports.com. it was nice because the waiver wire would be reset every week based on record, there were fees to add/drop players, losses, put players on I/R etc. It would end up costing people a few hundred bucks but the winner would walk away nicely. There was also cash prizes for teams with the most points, best record, etc. My point is if we choose to do it for money, rtsports.com or a similar site would be better than yahoo because it has a lot more options.

I would volunteer my services as commisioner and could handle the cash and coordinate a place if everyone likes. I would just need a head count and geographics of everyone so we could pick a central location. also, people could team up if they want to split costs provided they can get along with managing the team.

Just keep this in mind so we can set up a draft sometime in late august or Private Message me and I'll get a list together now.

I am from Phillipsburg NJ representin the Northwest Jersey coast. Right now I am attending Slutgers University in New Brunswick. The Miami Dolphins were the first NFL game I went too with my grandfather and after going to that and a Jets game I realized I loved the dolphins because even at the age of five cheerleaders in skirts could sway my vote, so since then I have grown to love the Miami Dolphins.

Yes with toll and liverpool to help him. Keep in mind where toll and liverpool are now, Boston College and Seattle Mariners respectively, to where teel is now.

Let me know if anyone is interested.

i live 5 min. away from bar-a. Never been there for football but have been there many of nights just to party years back. If? its a good place to watch the game then i am in. There are a couple of other places i go to in the neptune/belmar area that show all the games. But if you can put it together at bar-a then that will be the palce to watch the games.
