I love Marino, but I'd have to give arm to Brett Favre. He gunned it to those recievers. If Marino was tops on anyone of them it would be heart IMO.

Having a gun for an arm isn't the way to judge arm strength. It is velocity. Marino was the best ever in combining the quick release with a strong arm and, most importantly, accuracy. Elway and Favre were not (are not) as good as Marino was at delivering a high velocity throw with exceptional accuracy.

I think I go with

Body = Culpepper
Arm = Marino (hands down)
Brains = Montana
Heart = Farve
Legs = Elway

The legs might be controversial. I admit Vick is quicker but I think he is too quick...when you run like he does, you put too much trust in them and not in your arm...QB has to throw first IMHO. So I go with Elway legs that are used to get you out of trouble but then plant and throw using that Marino Arm...

Anyone choosing Vick legs on their PROTOTYPE QB is risking their QB's health and should put a lot of money into good insurance. Your PROTOTYPE will go down with injury too often....I want quick legs that help utilize the arm and brain and protect my investment, which is huge since this QB is going to require quite a contract.:cooldude:

Actually it would have to be Arm-Marino, because there was no QB past present, or near Future, that could throw the ball to a reciever that was double or Triple covered, and still be as successful as Marino was. Marino also had a great deep ball.

I agree completely. A prime example, that still sticks in my mind, was when Marino was in the QB Challenge. During the mobility portion he was the slowest through the run portion, but threw the ball a good distance before he finished it and nailed the target dead center. It was so fast and accurate that I believe he ended up winning that portion of the competition.

EDIT: I can't wait to see him perform in this years QB challenge. Should be a great show. I hope he slaughters Boomer and the others. :lol:

I'm not a really a McNabb fan, but I must admit this guy can break tackles like a RB. He's gotta be the strongest QB of all-time.

I think that they're all got tremendous strength and power at breaking tackles. But I don't think I would choose McNabb as the best.

For body strength, power, and breaking tackles... my list would go something like:

Daunte Culpepper- 6'4" 264lbs
Steve McNair- 6'2" 235lbs
Donovan McNabb- 6'2" 240lbs
Byron Leftwich- 6'5" 245lbs
Ben Roethlisberger- 6'4" 241lbs

Just a few I can think of, off hand.

Don't feel bad. Even Dan, himself, stated that he was fine when his legs didn't work, it was when his arm no longer worked that he knew it was time to retire.

PS... I guess we will find out soon enough if he still has an arm or not. Since he is competing in the QB Challenge. If he can still wing it with accuracy then perhaps we can give rebirth to the Wanny conspiracy theory, that he drove Marino into retirement.

I disagree with that just based on the incredible level of pocket presence he had. his feet actually were very quick and he could move in the pocket or step up and out of harms way to buy a few more seconds better than QB's with much better legs....that has to rank him well above other slow Qb's and even some fast ones.

Hey man, I can dig it. Looking at it from that angle you're right.

I won't take credit for it. I actually heard Marino discuss that issue in an interview about 10 years ago. He stated that a QB rarely has to throw a ball more than 40 yds, and most NFL QB's could do that. However, what set him apart was his ability to throw the deep out with high velocity and with pinpoint accuracy.
Brady can't do it. Neither can Manning.

That and he almost always put it down low where only the reciever had a shot at it. He mad a ton of throws where the defender, no matter how well possitioned, never had a remote shot at catching the ball.

LOL, to say that Fiedler didn't have heart is to be naive.

If you are biased and can't give credit where credit is due then you have no valid opinion.

You probably think that Chambers is a pro Bowl receiver right?
Do you think Randy McMichaels is a pro bowl TE?
Let me guess. You thought it was Sammy Knight not Sam Madison who kept getting burned and was in the wrong place even though he was on the opposite side of the field playing his position?

Elway and Marino are pretty close on most levels...But what separates Elway, Marino and guys like Unitas and even Favre is their ability to carry a team on their shoulders...Montana always had a great supporting cast and as perfect as he was for that system, could never have carried their teams of the 80's and 90's to as many victories as Marino and Elway...call it field generalism, call it heart, call it dominance whatever you want...they had it...

"I wish I could say I had the recollection of seeing him play. But alas I am too young. Can you describe why he rates so high on your 'Arm' meter? Or was it a sarcasm post?"Douglass problem was that he had no touch. He set a QB rushing record and he impaled people with his passes. There was more than one that he threw that should have won games or been great plays but he threw it so hard no one could catch it. A typical Bobby Douglass pass would be ten or fifteen yards to a wide open man with good hands, it would be right on the money, and be dropped. You could feel the impact in the cheap seats. If God would have reached down and put Bobby's arm on Jay Fiedler, we'd have won a couple of Super Bowls already and Wanny would be a genius.
