I don't know, but I would imagine it's rather tasteless, poor attempt at getting ratings

No, it's more the fact that humor overcomes everything, and by taking pot shots at everything South Park manages to offend everyone. They don't need to drum up ratings. The show is dead-on in its lampooning of pretty much any topic it touches.

Not everyone is so uptight about it. Half my family died of cancer, and I find his voicebox hilarious.

Laughter cures everything.

Do the people laugh when you say what you say?" I said, "Yes." He said, "Do you get paid?" I said, "Yes." He said, "Well, tell Bill I said have a Coke and a smile and shut the **** up. Hey jt0323, I checked out the site. Just wondering how often would you hear a joke on television abour HIV/AIDS? I can't think of too many programs that would go out of their way to do something like that. If anyone has jokes please don't post them, I'm asking a serious question.

I've seen a lot of tasteless things. Most recently I saw one of those "Baby on board" signs that people put on their car windows, only this one had a drawing of baby (with it's umbilical cord still attatched) upside down under water. It said "Baby Conner Overboard", which is a reference to the unborn baby of Laci Peterson. I didn't find it funny...and thought it was disgusting, but I'm not going to make a petition to stop it from being made. That's censorship.

That's why I won't sign this. Besides I saw that Debbie Downer sketch and personally didn't find it offensive, but I guess that's just me.

Lighten up people. Yes it's a serious illness look how many people have given their time and money, but in this Country you don't have the right to NOT be offended.Freedom of speech is one of the many things that separate this great Country from others. So it may not be in the greatest of taste ,but atleast they have that choice to make fun of HIV/AIDS.

Yea, the whole censorship thing is where it gets all fudged up, I understand that and I respect and thank God for my freedom. I signed the petition not to promote censorship but more to promote a certain decency..You can't have it both ways though.

This is exactly what I was thinking when I read it.

I have a hard time thinking of anything on TV that makes fun of AIDS/HIV. Seriously, I think this coming completely out of left field and is basically a non-issue.

I'd rather see a petition that calls for more creative storytelling and plotline and less sex and cheap laughs. I'm tired of my intelligence being insulted by network TV.

I'm not a big fan of censorship and I believe in freedom of speech. I don't think it's funny to make of someone with a terminal disease, but I don't see how much harm it can cause. If you think it's tasteless, than you're absolutely entitled to your own opinion and are free to change the channel and boycott that TV show, etc. etc. If the FCC took all of this into serious consideration before you know it... 75% of the shows on TV would be off the air, millions of people would be out of jobs... hell someone might bring up the proposal to take off all sports because it's "uneducational" to children if no one has already. I don't believe in... you should take violence off television, get rid of pornography because kids shouldn't be viewing it... etc. Parents should be able to moderate what a kid should be allowed to watch and shouldn't. Just like an adult should be able to determine to watch what they want to and don't want to. If you find the humor tasteless, change the channel. Why get rid of shows like South Park or shows like C.S.I. or the Sopranos when there's millions of people who watch it. Why ruin it for everyone else? I don't think it's right to make fun of someone who has AIDS and find it to be tasteless humor... but I like shows like South Park and at times they go too far, but I find the show hilarious. If it bothered me or I didn't like it... I wouldn't petition it... I would just stop watching...

There is no cure for cancer or diabetes. I wouldn't call being brain damaged as living. There's treatments for cancer and diabetes just like there are treatments for HIV/AIDS.

First of all, I take no pleasure or think it's morally acceptable to making fun of someone who has an illness or a disease. Whether it's AIDS, cancer, diabetes, alcoholism, brian damage, depression, anxiety, schitzophrenia, ANYTHING. I think it's pretty messed up but some people do it and some people find it funny. No, I don't think we should ban all kinds of jokes that require a sick tasteless sense of humor... if you're offended by the joke... you're entitled to speak out about how you find the joke inappropiate or tasteless but why try to get rid of it on TV, movies, etc. Not everyone can be cured from alcoholism. Not everyone can be cured from cancer. Not everyone can be cured from AIDS/HIV (Just Magic Johnson), etc. Now see, that would be an example of me making a joke right there. I personally don't see harm in that, but if I offended anyone, I apologize. There's a lot of Dirty Jokes that people find disgusting, but they're not getting banned nor should they. And byroan's right about there is no cure for cancer or diabetes, just treatments (there's no guarentee you're going to get better.) I think it's really kind of messed up to be making jokes about someone with AIDS, but not becaue it's not a curable disease. I don't think that makes it any more wrong. It's just as screwed up to make fun of someone with cancer or diabetes or anything... Hell, it's screwed up to make fun of someone and to hurt their feelings. Just because AIDS is non curable isn't the problem in my opinion.

Like I said, the perfect solution is... if you're offended by it, than you're free to speak out your opinion or just ignore it and not let it bother you. I firmly believe in freedom of speech. And I don't see why people make such a big deal out of saying the "F-word" or giving someone the middle finger. They're just words... Words can't physically harm you. It's not the words that are bad (curses/cuss words), it's the meaning that people put behind the words and the interpreation people get from it. If I said F-YOU, there's some people who would get insulted. Now if I said Funkle buck you... it's not a big deal (even if I have the same meaning behind it). That's why I'm a firm believer in freedom of speech, I don't feel words or speech should be censored. As for tasteless jokes... it really depends on the individual. Everyone person has their own morals and beliefs, I think that's the way it should be kept.

It doesn't matter how much money we put into research. The united states government already has a cure. They engineered the disease to begin with.
