View Full Version : XBox Mods -- I made the jump

Well... I finally done it. You guys know I'm an Xbox gamer. I also play quite a bit of XBL. After a lot of consideration (and seeing my friends modded xbox) I decided to make that leap and mod mine.

It took a lot of convincing because you risk giving up XBL. I decided to go with a soft-mod because it's cheaper (harder to do) and un-do-able.

I've hot-swapped a 120gb hard drive in the place of my original 8gb. I now have a few movies (legal ofcourse), several games, every SNES, NES, SEGA, GBA, and N64 game ever made on my Xbox (Also legal back-ups of every game I own :D).

Xbox Live still works... Although I suspect that I'll be caught and banned shortly. The good thing about being banned is that your GT isn't banned. Your Xbox e-prom is. What's that mean? If you download a new e-prom (or borrow a friend or relatives' that doesn't use XBL) your back online.

I figured i'll give up XBL (if I'm cought) because the 360 comes out in a few months anyway. Thoughts? :D

I thought about modding mine, but I'm too lazy and don't want to mess around with it. My cousin did his though, and filled it with "legal backups" of a whole bunch of xbox games. It is weird to just turn on the xbox and pick a game instead of loading from a disc.

I've got mine softmodded. 120 gig drive in there, and I have it hooked to my entertainment system. It's great to load up XBMC (Xbox Media Console) and use my xbox as a digital jukebox on my sound system.

Oh yeah... it's cool to load games from a menu too.

i soft modded mine and wont get banned here do this

This tutorial will tell you how to mod on xbox live without getting baned off of it.

This tutorial will guide you through how to mod your xbox in 3 easy steps.
Necessary Equipment:

An Xbox w/ Xbox Live Tab (If you don’t have an xbox live tab then you can update your xbox by running a xbox live enabled game and installing the updates.) You also need to know what kernel and version your xbox is. To find the kernel go into MS Dashboard settings and select "System Info". Just let it scroll until you see something like this: "k:1.00.4981.67" and go here to find out the xbox version.

The Game (you only need one)

Mechassault (Has to be the original version, You can tell what version you have by the laser etching on the back, if you have MS02301L you have the original, if it is MS02308L you have the new version which will not work.)
Splinter Cell
007 - Agent Under Fire

A computer with a USB port

Action Replay memory card w/ USB docking station and software - make your own or use a USB Device
(It has been rumored that the new versions of the Action Replay Memory Card corrupts large gamesaves when transferring them)

Ldots ltools Package v1.7.5 - There are 3 versions of this package depending on the game you wish to use. You will need to gain access to the Xbins' FTP to get the file. In order to do so, you will need to follow this tutorial. The directory in which it is found is: xbox/operating system/linux/distributions/ltools/

If you have all (most) of them, then you may continue.

Ounce you have the aquired Ltools package open it up then open up the U data file then find the mxm.xml document drag it to your desktop ounce that is done right click it then select open with-> then select note pad ounce note pad is opend up look for this:

Now erase the current ip that it shows and put this in it's place:
Save what you have changed and replace the old mxm.xml document with the new one.

Open the Action Replay software and open the directory in which your version of the ltools package is saved. The just simply drag and drop the .zip file into the middle column (PC Database). After this drag the gamesave (Run Linux) across to the left column which shows your memory card and it should copy across.

Take out the memory card from the docking station and put it into the top of your xbox joypad. On the Microsoft xbox dashboard choose memory and select the memory card with the gamesave on. Go to the gamesave and click A. The select Copy and copy the game to the xbox hard drive. Insert the chosen game which matches the chosen gamesave and wait for it to load.

Select campaign and load up Run Linux by selecting it with A. Once loaded scroll down (Press B if you only see the name of the game that is currently loaded)

Ounce the I tools menu comes up use a ftp program to get into your xbox's hard drive if you dont have one you get download one here:
http://www.download.com/SmartFTP/3000-2160_4-10362660.html?tag=lst-0-1 (http://www.download.com/SmartFTP/3000-2160_4-10362660.html?tag=lst-0-1)

Ounce you have the program put this in for the adress
Username:xbox pass:xbox

Ounce inside your xbox's hard drive got to the E:drive-T data then go in the 4d530064 folder ounce in that folder click the bottom folder that will contain 2 (MORE) folders the bottom folder is the free maps the top folder is th purchased maps Click on what ever folder you wish depending on the map you want to mod. After you find the map you want just transfer the map file to your computer mod it and replace the old map that you had before.--INPORTANT--Remember to delete the patches in the folder of the map that you are moding or it will say failed to load the map and you need to get some one else to start the map you modded because it will not show up on your map list. One more thing when you sighn on to xbl with a modded map (that means patches are deleted)It will say your downloaded content is damaged (This is ok).

If you wish to get your origanal maps and patches back just download the maps again. You can not use modded maps for matchmaking unless you have the map modded right if you do not know how to do this dont try.
