I figured the ladies deserved equal time. My personal fave right now is probably Tracy Bonham.

Did you ever see Lucy Lawless's Stevie Nicks impersonation on SNL? Priceless.

They did a great one of her on South Park a few years back. There was this goat that everybody mistook for Stevie Nicks. When it would "B-a-a-a-a", all the troops (it was a USO show) mobbed her and asked for her autograph.

My brother and his best friend were huge fans of nightwish, I don't really know who would be a good choice here, maybe Fiona Apple, but that is not really rock, and i dont really like her that much

I don't think anyone rocked quite as elegantly as Pat Benatar, in her tight black spandex bodysuit with that luscious booty bouncing around in there. Oh, yeah.

I know, she was more Rock A Billy than Country. Having her roots with the "Flying Burrito Brothers". Yesterdays Allyson Krause. Man did she put out some great albums.

Her name is Bif Naked...she used to rehearse in the room next to my old bands...

Listen to her song "Daddy's getting married" and then listen to "Today" by the Smashing Pumpkins and tell me she is not a thief.

I'd love to know how Stevie Nicks, Ann Wilson, Janis Joplin and a few others owe Pat Benetar - who came around AFTER them - for "paving the way". :goof:

Bjork is a fascinating and talented musician, and she rocks on occasion.

Pat Benatar is, of course, a great call.

I went to Amazon and listened to some samples of Nightwish. I may have to pick up one of their CDs. It reminded me of Sisters of Mercy, but with a female front singer.

I also listened to Lacuna Coil for the first time. I liked them, but (don't tell Bltizkrieg) the male singer kind of annoyed me.

Finally, Astro_Fiend, I have to ask ... are you a fan, or is the name just a coincidence. ;)

i thought the name nightwish sounded familliar. i came across one of their vidoes on launch (http://launch.yahoo.com/video/default.asp?vid=4614830)a while back. the music isn't my style, but she does have a nice voice.

i am a huge fan of the doktor. well, that and a huge misfits fan....:D

Janis might not have been the best vocalist technically....but you'd be HARD pressed to find a woman who put more of her soul into her singing than her. ;)

Exactly. For me, music isn't always necessarily about how technically good someone is at something; it's more about what they get me to feel while listening to them. Janis always made me feel something - different things on different songs.

I can listen to some of the singers now and appreciate that they have a good, well-trained voice, but for the most part their vocal aerobics leave me cold while they attempt to show off their range.

Give me a growly, sexy voice like Joan Osborne's over any of the current divas any day, any time.
