                                         MIAMI vs SAN DIEGO

                           Sunday, September 27, 2009 4:00PM

CAN THE FINS STOP THE SLIDE?

               Rivers

Philip Rivers has to be excited to face the Dolphin pass defense

Today all of the Dolphin Nation awaits to see if this year's team can do what last years team did. After losing two games to start the season, last year's team won. They reached into a bag of tricks and found the wildcat and beat New England. This time they need to find the bag of tricks for the defense. The passing defense in particular has been carved up by Matt Ryan and then Peyton Manning. You have to wonder if Philip Rivers, and ex-Dolphin Chris Chambers are licking their chops for their shot at the Dolphins. Even more frightening is Tight End Antonio Gates who after watching Tony Gonzalez and Dallas Clark have their way in the first two week must be thinking he is primed for a career day.

Is this the week it clicks?  This is a must win game for our Miami Dolphins because if this team starts 0-3 we can forget this season.

Ross Expects Parcells To Return For 2010 Season PDF Print E-mail

PARCELLS MAY RETURN IN 2010

 Bill Parcells

Though the Dolphins have started the 2009 season 0-2, and some fans have questioned Bill Parcells and whether he still "has it" at 68 years old, there is no denying he has fixed this franchise. Some fans are upset with Parcells after last night's heartbreaking 27-23 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, but let's just back up and think about it a little more. It was a tough loss and a game Miami SHOULD have won, but this was a team that was 1-15 just two seasons ago. The fact that we as Dolphin fans can sit here two years later, coming off a division championship season in 2008 and be upset we lost a CLOSE game to Indianapolis, who is an elite team in the NFL. Parcells' magic is also why Miami was able to host this game on Monday Night Football. So, before we run to his house with torches and pitch forks, let's just remember where we were before he took over. Parcells made the Dolphin relevant again.

The 2008 season probably spoiled fan's hopes for the 2009 season, but we do need to remember that while the Dolphins are defending a division championship, this is still a team in transition. Parcells has been building this team with the help of head coach Tony Sparano and GM Jeff Ireland over the past two years. What this team needs to continue to grow and improve is continuity in the front office. That is why the news today from an interview with Owner Stephen Ross is encouraging news.

While some fans are worried that Ross' movement to "glitz" up the game day experience may drive Parcells out of town, Ross explains that is not the case. "Bill is aware of everything we're doing, and certainly very positive. Having the stadium filled with fans -- that's the most important thing, that 12th man. That's what they want to see. Whatever it takes to do that they're solidly behind. What he's building here, he wants to probably see it succeed and be here to bear the fruits of what he's doing. ... He came home to a place that I think is probably going to be where he makes his last mark, his last stand, so to speak."

So here is hoping Parcells can continue to groom this team for the long haul. So far he has transformed this team from a late night talk show punch line, to a team that can compete game in and game out with the NFL eilte.

FINS SHOW NO DEFENSE IN HEARTBREAK LOSS

Indianapolis Colts 27 Miami Dolphins 23

     Colts Final

Colt WR Pierre Garcon celebrates his game winning score

WARNING: If you are a fan who can not stand to hear people complain about the team...then do not proceed.

As for the rest of us:

I think Joey Porter and his loud talk and the rest of the Dolphin defense needs to get on their knees and beg the offense for forgiveness. The offense played a beauty of a game and dominated the Colts all night. They did it so convinceingly and so dominantly that the Colts offense barely sniffed the field...thank GOD! If they had equal possession then they may have set a new NFL record for points in a game. There are so many places to start, the lack of pressure, the poor coverage, and the terrible, terrible tackling. The tackling that was so bad that every Colt recepetion seemed to go on forever as tackler after tackler slid off the ball carrier. The fans did their part showing up and being vocal, and the owner did his part putting on a hollywood type production. They offense and even the special teams did their part. But the defense. The lousy no tackling, no covering, no sacking defense lost this game. There may be some that criticize Pennington because of his arm strength etc. etc. But he did nothing to lose this game. In fact he made many key third down throws when we needed them. This was all on the defense. It was pathetic, amatureish the way they played and let Manning score so fast and so easy, like he was toying with those little kids in his commerical.

Dolphin fans we are in trouble. I am sorry but our team is bad. I also now know why Washington was willing to let Jason Taylor go...he has been completely ineffective this year. The safety play is bad, the linebackers can not cover or seemingly tackle. It is just bad all over.

If this brain trust does not figure out something fast they will see this kind of abuse all season long as offenses will be licking their chops everytime they play Miami.  If we don't change something (do they have a Wildcat equivalent for defense?) we may be competing for the top pick again this year.

                   OFFENSIVE!

Out of Sync Fins Lose 19-7

      Atlanta

Chad Pennington fumbles and commits one of the four turnovers by Miami

The Dolphins started the 2009 season proving the pundits right. Moist experts predicted Miami to struggle this year and finish around 8-8. The offense had no answer and looked confused all day and the defense could not stop Matt Ryan and Tony Gonzalez as the game should have been much worse than the score reflects. The Miami Dolphin were beat and beat badly. They were out hit, out coached and out played. The defense played well against the run but not agains the pass. Even Pro Bowl tackle Jake Long looked poor as he was beaten all day and gave up two sacks.

*sigh*

As of today the so called experts look like genuises.

The Dolphins failed to go out this off season and get a playmaker at the wide out position. They will pay for that this year as Chad Pennignton was looking all day for someone to be open. By contrast the Falcons went out and got Tony Gonzalez (playmaker) who made highlight play after highlight play. The Dolphins were reduced to sandlot style ball as they tried the Wildcat with Pat White. Nothing. They tried fancy throwbacks etc. and stil could not make a dent. This team needs to find its identity on offense. It should be a running team but the supposedly improved offensive line did little to open up room for the backs. When you can't run and you can't throw and you turn the ball over four times, you get what we got. A thorough whipping which leaves this team and its fans wondering who they really are.
