WILFORD AMONG CUTS

 Ernest Wilford

The Dolphins on Monday took a step to trimming their roster down to 53. While the league's first cut down date to 75 players isn't until September 1st, the Dolphins got a head start by releasing six players.

The team released WR Ernest Wilford, RB Anthony Kimble, WR Chris Williams, Linebacker Orion Martin, NT Joe Cohen and Linebacker Tearrius George.

Rookie Vontae Davis Delivers And So Do The Chads

Dolphin fans got a chance to see why the team selected Vontae Davis with their first overall pick in the NFL draft. After a bad first game the rookie DB bounced back with a strong second game as he demonstrated excellent tackling ability as well as solid coverage skills. He and the Dolphin defense played a stingy game as they limited Carolina's high powered offense in the first half. On offense both Chad Pennington and Chad Henne looked impressive and the team rolled out the Wildcat for the first time in 2009. The only sore spots were the play of the special teams. Missed tackles and poor play by Rookie hopeful Chris Williams put the Dolphins in bad situations all game long. Williams will learn how quickly you can go from phenom to no one when you fumble in the NFL. He did not play again after muffing a punt in the 2nd quarter which gave Carolina excellent field position.

All in all it was another win for the home team as they continue to roll through the preseason. They head into their first away game of the 2009 campaign against Tampa Bay next week. They hit the road having run the ball well, pressured the QB well, played well against the run, and most importantly winning.

Report: At Least Two Dolphins Test Positive For Swine Flu PDF Print E-mail

SEAN SMITH TESTS POSITIVE FOR SWINE FLU

 Sean Smith

The Dolphins suffered a major blow this morning when it was reported that at least two Dolphin players tested positive for Swine Flu. While the team doesn't expect an outbreak among other players, it is still a very serious concern with the regular season now on the horizon.

While the team has not confirmed which players were affected, those players will not be allowed to attend tonight's preseason game against the Carolina Panthers.

Orlando Alzugaray of WQAM is reporting that one of the players affected with this disease is rookie cornerback Sean Smith. Smith was the favorite to start at cornerback on opening day, but his status is now in question. Fellow rookie Vontae Davis is likely to take over the cornerback position for how ever long Smith may be out.

Dolphins Terminate Eric Green's Contract PDF Print E-mail

ERIC GREEN RELEASED

 Eric Green

In a somewhat surprising move Wednesday, the Dolphins terminated the contract of cornerback Eric Green. Green originally signed a two year deal with the Dolphins in March as an unrestricted free agent from the Arizona Cardinals.

Green struggled during offseason workouts, training camp practices and during the team's first preseason game. Rookie Sean Smith had already passed Green on the depth chart before the first game.

Smith and Vontae Davis will now compete for the starting cornerback job opposite veteran Will Allen. While the Dolphins do still have depth at the cornerback position, it has been reported that the Dolphins are interested in possibly signing veteran cornerback Mike McKenzie.
