RENOVATIONS TO BEGIN IN A FEW WEEKS
The Dolphins planned $350 million renovation of Sun Life Stadium has finally been approved by Miami-Dade and construction will begin in the next few weeks. The Miami-Dade commissioners on Tuesday afternoon voted 7-4 in favor of the latest renovation proposal put forth by the Dolphins and Mayor Carlos Gimenez.
The renovations are expected to be completed in two phases, with the first one to be completed before the start of the 2015 season and the entire project completed before the start of the 2016 season. With the renovations happening, Miami is expected to formally submit a bid for the rights to host Super Bowl LIII in February of 2019.
Another reported perk of the stadium renovation proposal passing is that Owner Stephen Ross plans to sign a 30 year lease with Miami-Dade to keep the team in South Florida at least through the 2044 football season.
