DOLPHINS SAVE $4.6 MILLION BY RELEASING MARSHALL
In a move that is somewhat surprising, mostly based on timing, the Dolphins have released veteran cornerback Richard Marshall. Marshall had been in a battle with Dimitri Patterson this Summer for the starting cornerback job opposite Pro Bowler Brent Grimes. With the move late Tuesday night, Patterson has officially won the starting job.

It is not surprising the Dolphins released Marshall, because it was always expected that the loser of the cornerback battle would be cut. Marshall was scheduled to make $4.6 and Patterson was scheduled to make $4.5 million. With Nolan Carroll returning and the team spending a 2nd round pick on Jamar Taylor and a 3rd round pick on Will Davis, a move like this needed to be made. The surprising part is that Marshall was released with two preseason games to go and would have provided the Dolphins insurance if the team would suffer an injury at the cornerback position before the start of the regular season.

OFFENSE SUFFERS MAJOR BLOW WITH LOSS OF KELLER
The knee injury to starting tight end Dustin Keller at first glance appeared to be serious and after a MRI on Saturday night, it was confirmed to be serious. So serious that it will sideline Keller for the entire 2013 season. The loss of Keller is a significant loss for the new look offense and the depth currently on the team is young and inexperienced.

If the Dolphins decide to stay in house at the tight end position, Charles Clay, Michael Egnew, Kyle Miller and rookie Dion Sims are the possible replacements. The Dolphins will likely look at the current available free agent tight ends, explore possible trades and scour the waiver wire at the end of the preseason.

FINS LOSE GAME, BUT BIGGEST LOSS MIGHT BE KELLER
The Dolphins starting defense was strong, quarterback Ryan Tannehill put up solid numbers, but the Dolphins backups couldn't play better than the Houston Texans backups and the ended up losing 24-17.

However the biggest loss of the evening may not be the game, but starting tight Dustin Keller, who suffered a gruesome right knee injury. There has been no official word on the severity of the injury, but the early expectation is that Keller will be lost for the entire 2013 season.

Tannehill finished the game 10 of 15 for 141 yard and 1 touchdown, and star wide receiver had 3 receptions for 58 yards and 1 touchdown. The Dolphins return to preseason action next Saturday when they host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
