Not a done deal, according to ESPN.com, but pretty close. Toronto papers were reporting that the Jays had offered 5/55, but Ricciardi shot down those rumors, so they didn't offer it, or Giles didn't want to eh his way through the rest of his career.

I like Giles, he's a good ballplayer... 10 Million a year though? I understand his power numbers probably took a hit from playing in Petco Park 81 times a year...
...it still seems alittle steep.

Check out Giles #'s.. When healthy this guy can hit, but he has been hurt a bunch and plays for the Padres, who you hardly hear of..

No arguement there.. there's no doubt about it. 10 million a year still seems somewhat steep.

jays did make an offer...
"I think we'll know by Friday," Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi said yesterday of when he expects the free-agent outfielder to make his decision on where to play. "We've made our offer and I think our chances are 50-50."

He is only 34, and has played 317 games the last 2 years. 3 years and 10mil sounds good to me. He is like a really good version of Trot Nixon..

 on the Trot Nixon comment.
Anyway I'm glad that some of the smaller market teams are keeping their players and adding better ones to their teams (like SD with Giles, ChiSox with Paulie and Blue Jays with Ryan). I think that this was one of the only deals made this off season that a player wasn't overpaid. I bet Boras is pissed that Giles didn't get that 55 mill offer from the Blue Jays because Damon's value would have been higher too.
In my opinion with this signing Damon getting a 4 years 40 mill offer wouldn't be bad. Anything over would be a bad move.
