What should I have done different so this one would have been better?

I would say remove the black border and add some text to it... like "downhill skiing" or the olympians name or something. Maybe even make a duplicate layer of the skier and put a motion blur of him. Or maybe with the skier fiddle with some blending options :wink:

I liked it, that's the one I voted for. But DM's suggestions are good ones.

The skier looks distorted to me... and kinda floats, I would replace the shadow with a motion blur.
