My dear old dad always says "that Thomas Edison attributed his genius to his difficulty hearing". Normally, another person around the conversation will inquire, where he heard/read that, or the like. My dad's immediate, and quite loud, response "HUH??!?" pops is teh funnah too. ;)
off to google if Thomas Edison really was deaf. yeah, I'm working too Grape!

He later said he didn't mind being deaf because it helped him to concentrate.
