Singer-actress Jessica Simpson apparently has a budding relationship with Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, who is having a "Cinderella" season.
Ask Dallas Cowboys players to describe Tony Romo and one word keeps emerging: cool.
It makes sense considering how he’s handled the last month.
Undrafted out of college and unused his first 3½ NFL seasons, all Romo has done since taking over the high-profile job of Cowboys quarterback is win three of four starts, earn NFC offensive player of the week honors one Sunday and then outduel Peyton Manning the next.
He’s even found time to make his way into the gossip columns. Talk of a budding relationship between Romo and Jessica Simpson has hit such a frenzy that an Internet gambling site is offering 3-2 odds they will soon be dating.
“Romo is having one of those Cinderella seasons,†linebacker Kevin Burnett said Monday. “He’s the type of quarterback who is cool. He extends the play, he gets himself out of bad situations. If we go to the Super Bowl, he’s going to be the guy who takes us there.â€
Whoa, hang on there. While Romo’s rapid emergence has salvaged this season and set up the Cowboys (6-4) for an interesting finish, he’s bound to start running into some obstacles — right?
Perhaps. But so far Romo has shown the poise of someone who has been playing for years, not watching.
After having a fumble, a three-and-out and an interception on his first three drives Sunday, Romo rallied Dallas to a 21-14 victory over previously unbeaten Indianapolis. In the fourth quarter, he led the Cowboys on a 68-yard drive to tie it, an 80-yarder for the go-ahead score, then kept alive another long enough to run out the final 2:59.
Romo was 10-of-11 in the second half, a week after going 10-of-10 in the second half against Arizona.
