Oh noes! Is my ps2 crapping out?

So..last time my roommate and I decide to restart Champions for the 9th time last night. We notice it says no controller in port 1. I switch controllers, reset, games runs fine for about 20 min and says the same thing.

Anyone have this issue? Could it be the controllers or the system?
