49ers' Nolan, Jags' Del Rio get permission to suit up for home games

Not sure if you guys remember them wearing the suits. Of course they were RBK suits, but I liked it. It showed a touch of class for NFL coaches. Unlike the raggy grey hoodies. I like the idea of them dressing up, and hope more coaches do.

Cool. Nolan's been pushing this for a while. I agree about the suits showing a "touch of class". I wonder if this will influence other coaches to do the same.

I am going to have to disagree on this one. Personally I dont like the sideline suits. I think they look silly on the sideline and they're too stuffy and uncomfortable. Maybe it fits a snooty coach in an indoor stadium but this could never be mandated as the official coach's attire. I cant picture any coach willing to sport a 3 piece suit in Miami's 90 degree heat. The NFL has plenty of class and I enjoy the casual look of the polo shirt, etc.

Gotta agree with that. I don't mind if coaches want to wear suits at games, but I wish the NFL would mandate that the coaches outfit need to change at least every 2 games or so. That way Bellicheck would have to change out of that horrendous hoody once in a while. It reminds me of Parcells and his Giants sweater.

No one's talking about mandating them. Up until now, they've been banned completely. Seriously, they're banning suits!!!

I think its hillarious for the simple fact that both of these coaches can be considered HOF'ers, so dispite Andre Agassi and his Cannon commercials, image is nothing.

I think it's a good thing. If they want to wear standard rbk gear, that's fine with me, but I don't think they should be prevented from wearing something as classy as a suit if they want to.

I think its great that they got permission to wear the suits. Hopefully more coaches do the same.

i vote for Jim Tressell red sweater vests (no matter what your team colors are) coupled with Steve Spurrier golf visors for all of them. :goof:

there is a comedian who does a bit about sports coaches on the sideline, and specifically why potbellied baseball managers have to wear the tight fitting wear the uniform.

seriously though, suits would be a marked improvement over the Bill Belicheck sleeves-and- hoodie-cut-off sweat shirt... it ticks me off that players get fined if they let their socks slip down for one play, but Belicheck is allowed to dress like a bum, as long as his mutilated sweatshirt says Patriots on the front.

The only reason they were banned was because Reebok wanted coaches to sport their team gear. Because, you know, there's nothing more influencing in securing a purchase decision than seeing a loud, obnoxious 65 year old man sweating up and down the sideline wearing the gear you're going to buy.
