The weather in MN is finally getting to be above freezing! Time for grilling season!
Which type of grill do you prefer, gas or charcoal?
Me? I'm a purist, and won't touch anything other than a charcoal grill.

Sorry, I'm obligated to do this.
Charcoal tastes HORRIBLE. But I do like the taste of meat cooked on a cooked on a charcoal grill!

When I first saw the title of this thread, I couldn't help but think of this video:

Anyway....I use to prefer gas. But then I went to a bus roadeo (aka a saftey skills competition, and yes, I'm a bus nut. XD) and had a burger from a charcoal grill. It made me think twice about which one I liked better, and now I'm kinda in the middle.

I voted gas just b/c it allows me to grill rather frequently. I can decide to eat a burger or a steak and have it on the plate 15 minutes later (assuming it's defrosted). Charcoal or wood tastes better but involves more planning.

That's the sole drawback to a non gas grill.

Not really a BBQ guy, but my dad recently switched to charcoal and he loves it.

Agreed. I just don't plan the majority of my meals ahead of time. I almost never eat out. I eat a couple of lunches a week out and maybe a one dinner out every other week. The rest of the time I cook at home. Maybe twice a week (at most) I'll plan ahead (marinade meat or fish or make a meat loaf). The rest of the time I decide what I'm in the mood for at the last minute so I prefer the convenience that gas affords me.

Without a doubt charcoal, gas just cooks too fast, and takes the fun out of grilling.

I like charcoal grilling for the taste but gas grilling is so much easier.

Gas grilling is NOT even really grilling. Its like using a Foreman.

ROFL.
Well, I have to say I can really dig gas, so much easier for me to light.
However, charcoal brings out a better flavor.
Ever done a whole turkey on a charcoal grill with hickory chips? Trust me, it was SOOOOOO worth the 3 hour wait.

Those of you who say charcoal takes too long to get ready have never used one of these:

WAY better than piling it up and dumping lighter fluid on it. Much cleaner, and you never get that chemical taste from the fluid soaking into the coals!
I bought one a few years back, and will NEVER go back to fluid. All you need is 2 sheets of newspaper, a match, and 20 minutes!

Charcoal only if you don't have real wood. I had a gas grill for about 6 months then gave it to my sister's family. Went back to Charcoal and wood. Much better taste.

Charcoal....I barbecue year round....even when it is snowing outside. I have never had a gas grill but I have always loved charcoal....Kingsford briquets. I grill steaks, brauts, hotdogs, burgers and corn on the cob.

I could not vote because to me it depends on the meat, cookout, etc. If I'm cooking kabobs, I want gas, if I want barbecue, I want charcoal. With gas, you have more control over the heat, and it's at the right temp. ASAP. With coals, it adds a quite different flavor, and that's what I use for steaks, chops, and such. With something like plain grilled chicken, I use gas though, the even temperature is easier to go by. Hope this helps. :peace1:
