I never understood why they got rid of Saunders.
because Saunders took over for Larry Brown (who got the team over the hump). After an amazing regular season, the Pistons looked horrible in the playoffs under Flip never making it past the ECF. People said he couldn't win the big game (fair critism), but the Pistons also became very cocky after winning the title in Brown's first year with the team and were very complacent every year after that and never really respected Flip.
Flip is a great coach to help get a team to contender, but not the right coach for a team ready to contend right now.
