RiVERTON, Wyo. - The Fremont County Commission has endorsed a proposal to raise Wyoming's malt beverage tax.
The commission this past week backed a resolution proposed by the Fremont County Association of Governments that supports raising the tax on malt beverages to 28 cents a gallon.
Since 1935, the tax on beer in Wyoming has been set at 2 cents per gallon.
The proposed resolution would be presented at the 2011 Wyoming Association of Municipalities Annual Convention this June in Sheridan.
Supporters of raising the tax say the extra revenue gained could be dedicated to alcohol abuse treatment programs statewide.
