Drafttek put together a worksheet that graded teams on their ability to retain drafted players over the last 3 years.

I found it interesting but slightly flawed. For one they simply looked at the draft and gave a percentage of players that are still on the team which I thought was a little unfair. Teams that select much lower than others, Green Bay, have a different talent pool than say St Louis who are picking near the top. Additionally if a 7th round pick doesn't make it no big deal but if a 2nd rounder doesn't it is a big deal.

I adjusted the rankings to compensate for this and came up with the chart below. Again it is the percentage of players drafted still on the team with adjustments for where the pick was made and the 3 yr Wtd Avg is the weighted average of each year (2011 worth more than 2009). I thought is was fun to look at.

I think the biggest reason the Jets are #1 is that they had like three picks per draft.

poor personnel choices and the incomprehensible draft picks are the #1 reason we ain't sniffed the playoffs in years. seems like the even the sucky players we do overdraft and then cut for little or no comp end up either starting or at least contributing elsewhere.this HO can't grade talent to save it's life and it's killing us!

How did you adjust for those factors ? The Drafttek model simply totaled up all players drafted and players still on the team over the last 3 years.Short story is I felt that a team cutting a 7th rounder was really no big deal and also felt that teams like the Packers had less of a talent pool to choose from. I assigned a point value to the where the pick was made then totaled up players still on the team.
