it depends on what a hit song is, if it's number ones then its probably the beatles.

If it is #1 hits it is the Beatles....the Stones have only had a handful....The Beach Boys have had more than the Stones I think but not as many as the Beatles. Not sure who the Funk brothers are?....Play that Funky Music White Boy.
I guessed the Stones, though I never listened to any of that stuff. Before my time.

FUNK BROTHERS
music fueled the careers of The Temptations, The Supremes, The Miracles, the Four Tops, Gladys Knight and The Pips, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Mary Wells and others from the time the company started in the late 1950s until it left Detroit for California in 1973. (Related item: Funk Brothers, where art though now? (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.))
They played on more No. 1 hits than Elvis Presley, The Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Beach Boys put together. But to the general public, they remain largely unknown. Unlike the galaxy of beloved Motown stars, songwriters and producers, the Funk Brothers were rarely recognized for their contribution to what became "the sound of young America."

They were a group of musicians that played the music for all those artists named above. They aren't even listed on the albums. For example, if you wanted to know who played bass on the Supreme's album you wewre out of luck cause the album DID NOT displaytheir names. The band members changed frequently becuase Motown simply used the best Jazz musicians available at the time. So your question is misleading. This group was NEVER credited with having all those hits.

no u are wrong,
The Funk (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.) Brothers were the house band (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.) at Detroit (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.)'s Motown (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.) Records from 1959 (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.), when the company moved to Los Angeles (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.). Their story was told in Paul Justman's 2002 (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.)documentary (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.)film (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.) Standing in the Shadows of Motown (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.).
Early members included bandleader Joe Hunter and Earl Van Dyke (piano (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.)); James Jamerson (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.) (bass guitar (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.)); William 'Benny' Benjamin and Richard 'Pistol' Allen (drums (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.)); Robert White, Eddie Willis, and Joe Messina (guitar (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.)); Jack Ashford (tambourine (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.)); and Eddie 'Bongo' Brown (percussion (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.)). Hunter left in 1964 (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.), replaced on keyboards by Johnny Griffith and as bandleader by Van Dyke. Around the same time Uriel Jones joined the band as a third drummer.
In 1967 (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.), guitarists Dennis Coffey and Wah Wah Watson (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.) joined the band. Benny Benjamin died the next year, and Bob Babbitt (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.) began to replace James Jamerson on many recording dates.
The group was dismissed from Motown's service in 1972, when Berry Gordy (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.) moved Motown to Los Angeles.
The Funk Brothers are (as established in the film they were recently portrayed in) generally unknown for their crucial contributions to the Motown genre, despite having played the background music in nearly every Motown hit. Their involvement in these famous songs makes them the biggest hitmakers in music history, having played in more #1 songs than The Beatles (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.), Elvis Presley (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.), and The Rolling Stones (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.) combined.
