Getting files from one computer to another

I just got a new computer, and I want to get some files off my old computer onto my new one. However, some of the files couldn't be uploaded because they were too big, so I can't get them on my new computer. Does anyone know if you can just connect the two computers and transfer the files from one to the other? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If both computers have a NIC (Network Information Card) you can link them together via TCP/IP and by using a "cross-over" cable.

My old computer can't use TCP/IP anymore. The main reasons why I got a new computer was because around 2 weeks ago, my old computer (both are laptops) wouldn't recognize a ethernet card anymore so I had to use dialup (it would have cost a lot to fix and it is already 4 years old), it was unreliable and would sometimes not startup, and it would freeze a lot.

Do you know if you could connect the two using a USB cable?
