They can't immediately replace those guys, but who's to say that those picks don't turn out to be future hall-of-famers?

jason talyor has more than 100 sacks since 2000 and is the leading sack leader in this decade. he might be the defensive player of the decade. he is a freak and man i will not miss loss to jason taylor games from now.i remember atleast once a year him kicking matt light to the crub and tom brady to the ground.....

I disagree...Arent these the same people that say the absolute best value picks are the second round... Who wants high first round picks anymore with these damn garuanteed salaries, I sure as hell don't.

When grading this, it most certainly depends upon your perspective ...

If you look at today's value on the field ... then clearly NO, JT can't be replaced with a 'future draft pick(s)' ... THAT is a no brainer. You can't expect anyone currently on the team to 'replace' him or his production.

What you do want -- is the entire front 7 to play better as a whole ... and that CAN be accomplished ... but can't be predicted right now today -- you have to wait until for the season to bear that out.

Getting the picks and CAP relief is a business decision .... and a good one at that. But, the challenge is most folks will look back and say -- 'this is what we got with those picks' ... and base the end value on that, which is really the wrong answer as the 2 really aren't truly related -- but it gives us all something to chat about ....

I see this as excellent move by us. JT is 34 and in the last year (or two) of his career. Instead of losing him and getting nothing, we got a 2nd round pick. Of course, we have to make it count by using the pick wisely. But at least we have that chance. Typically, the best value of the draft is in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. If the Redskins have a disapointing season, which can easily happen to any team, then it could end up being a high 2nd round pick, for a 34 year old player that likely would have retired after one more season with the Dolphins. Excellent move.

Another thing to look at when grading this trade is the fact that we have never seen JT play in the 3-4 defense full time before. We've seen him play in a hybrid of it, but never actually line up like that all the time before. We dont really even know what we are losing in that aspect. I'm not completely sold on the trade though. Here is why. JT comes out and says, I think I'm only going to play for another year and then retire. Now he could really mean that, or what better way to get a rebuilding team to trade you than say something of that sorts. We are going to take what we can get for him, if we know that we are going to lose him the next year just like everybody in the post has said. But, what if he doesn't plan to retire, what if he used that to get out of Miami and he's going to play another 3 or 4 years. How does that trade look then??? I personally would have rather had 3 or 4 years from JT. I know that is a big "what if" idea. I dont think that its too far fetched though, I guess only time will tell.

Adam Schefter is a pompous, know it all, loudmouth who knows Jack Crap about football. JT was a 3rd round pick, yet he can't be replaced by a 2nd. We got 11 years of top quality play and then replaced him with a higher pick and a 6th as well. Miami got a good deal.

It's like buying a car for $10,000, putting 100,000 miles on it and then selling it for $13,000 11 years later right before it needs an expensive overhaul.

As was said before, he was actually a 3rd round pick (the first of four 3rd rounders we had that year), but your point remains.

Another aspect of the value of gaining trade picks is the more opprotunities at choosing from the draft pool, the more chances at hitting gold, and pulling out a rookie HOFer.

32 teams are awarded 7 picks each, from one pool of talent. Anytime you get a team to give you one of thier picks it tips the odds of a sucessfull draft in your favor. It also adverserly tips the odds against other teams from having an equally sucessfull draft as yours. Aquiring extra picks is always a positive thing.

JT, yes is a talented guy, and he will probally play more then one season in Washington. He probally would not of played at his highest level here in Miami nor would he of been around for multiple seasons. He does not want to play for Miami anymore. Reguardless of his reasons and weather or not you agree or don't with them, he dosnt want to play here. Keeping him when you got a decent deal offered would of been foolish and really just plain spitefull. It would not of helped either party reach thier goal of getting to the big game.

With all that I have just said, I will concede that after seeing what NY got for Shockey I do think we let JT go at an undervalued market price. He is worth more then what Washington gave up for him. If JT can bring his HOF level of play onto the field in Washington, I dont think its unrealistic for them to get to the superbowl. If JT can get to the NFC QB's and shut them down. I think washington has enough talent surrounding talent to put some W's up.

Defensive end Jason Taylor becomes Washington’s newest monument.

no joke Adam!

Man this guy points out the obvious every chance he gets........and I was just starting to like him and respect his opinion.

Well, there really is no way to replace players of that caliber immediatly, but he does not know who we will land with that second round pick. the guy we draft could be a future hall of famer. we will not know the anwer to that just yet.
