Good assessment but small correction...

Taylor was actually a 3rd round pick out of Akron.......otherwise an excellent comeback....

I would like to add something..........after this bozo at work started giving me crap about the Fins (I'm an easy target, hell we were 1-15 and haven't contended since like 2002).......

Anyway, the clown starts in on me..."how the hell can you guys trade JT for a second round pick??? That is absurd, blah blah, the Fins got hosed, yada yada...."

And guess what folks... The easy comeback and it wasnt even a comeback because I had already thought it out in my head.....
  • Miami originally drafted JT in the 2nd round 12 years ago
  • Miami rode him for 11 seasons, getting 117 sacks, 5 pro-bowls, a defensive MVP, 8 TD's, countless forced fumbles, picks and recoveries.
  • And with two years left in his career, on the downside of his production (likely) what did Miami do?
  • They traded him for what they drafted him - a 2nd round pick (plus a free 6th rounder)
Seriously, how many teams can say that? Most players leave as free agents or get released long before the original club can ever get anything in return for the player. Miami rode him for 11 years, it was a great ride, and in return they got their investment back.

Schefter and everyone else is way off base for thinking anything different. Will their 2nd rounder from Washington equate to a JT type player? Time will tell. But the fact remains: Miami got their poker chip back. And that is very rare people.

I am out.

Sorry about that. But yeah, it can go either way with the 2nd rd pick.

What was fair value in Schefter's mind anyway?

second rounder is premium value, the Dolphins could have ended up settling for a 3rd or 4th.....You're not going to find a team that is going to trade a first round pick for Jason Taylor or Jeremy Shockey so what the hell if Shefter talking about?

I have to agree that it will be intresting to see how JT matches up opposing the NFC east lines twice a season. I suspect he will dominate them just as he has in our division over past seasons. I think its very plausable that he will have a big year. He will be motivated to show everyone what a mistake it was for miami not to of kissed his ***.

JT saying there isnt any anomosity is nothing more then him being politically correct. He is blatantly insincere with his comments and Im guessing he is going to use his vindictivness on the field. He will dominate in the washington market if for nothing more then to show everyone what a big mistake Parcels made in not pampering him.

Now that Zach and JT are no longer team mates and actually on rivalary teams it will be intresting to see if he speaks out against JT. I suspect he wont because he is just that kinda guy but none the less it would be something if he decides to do so.

So we should have waited until he hurt himself and gotten nothing! He didn't want to play for us. We also cleared 8m from the cap! How does it get better?

I don't get it, it's like the dolphins bought a new car and used it for 11 years and when it was about to break down, they sold it for more then they bought it for. It was a flat out good trade.

First off there are Many players picked up in later rounds who end up being probowlers. I'm not saying thats going to happen just that a 6th round player CAN in theory replace JT. Zach Thomas himself was a fifth rounder. I would name a certain patriot who was a sixth but I rather not say his name.

Can't replace them now but in about 3 years they can, the phins did the right thing, except they should have gotten something for Zack Thomas

I'm not completely sold on the trade though. Here is why. JT comes out and says, I think I'm only going to play for another year and then retire. Now he could really mean that, or what better way to get a rebuilding team to trade you than say something of that sorts. We are going to take what we can get for him, if we know that we are going to lose him the next year just like everybody in the post has said. But, what if he doesn't plan to retire, what if he used that to get out of Miami and he's going to play another 3 or 4 years. How does that trade look then??? I personally would have rather had 3 or 4 years from JT. I know that is a big "what if" idea. I dont think that its too far fetched though, I guess only time will tell.
This isn't the first time that JT has flirted with retiring so there is something more to it then him playing a bluff. Sure he plays the game with passion but I don't think he has the passion for the game the way he once did. He told the Redskins he would play out his contract but if they have a bad year I could easily see him changing his mind again, particularly if Zach also retires.

we were 1-15 last year with JT and Zach, so how much worse can we really be without them?

This is the title of the article:

Second-round picks simply can't replace Shockey, Taylor

And yet here is the last line of the article:

Neither Shockey nor Taylor is going to be easy to replace. But both teams can start trying with the extra second-round picks each has in 2009.

Contradiction? Just what are you trying to say here Schefter? Always take this guy with a grain of salt... Let's call it a salt lick!

Schefter's article is ridiculous. Parcells & Co. would be fools to expect to get JT's production for a 2nd round pick, or a defensive #1 overall pick for that matter.

The team is in a different place than JT is right now. His time is short & he wants to win now. We are a couple of seasons away(hopefully). The 2nd round pick is a building block for a contender, not a replacement for JT.

The Giants clearly showed that Shockey is replaceable.
