Based Upon ESPN's Estimates...I know there's already been a thread that put the link to the proposed cap casualties posted, but this thread will simply be a list of the possible FA cap casualties at two of the three need areas the 'Fins have identified. I left off LB since this post is long enough already and I'm sure one of you can see fit to put that list in here.
Wide Receiver:
Offensive Linemen (No Centers):
Remember, this list only includes likely cap casualties and doesn't include FA's (like Gandy.) Some of these names haven't been mentioned around here at all so I thought it would be good to get them out and see what you all think. ![]()

would Qudray Ismail play for us again - did JJ dis him last time we cut him ? I forget ?
the list is a bunch of has beens or never was or always hurt guys. I would still get OG back unless we can a guy like Qudray Ismail or Curtis Conway |

The J.J. era is in the past so I'm pretty sure there wouldn't be a problem bringing him in if the money's there. I would love to see Qudray lined up opposite Chambers; the guy is a catching machine and has decent speed boot. I love OG, but I'd have to say that Ismail is the better option at this point.

Whoa whoa whoa....since when is Qadry Ismail a "catching machine with speed to boot"????
I mean this isn't a "has-been" or a "never-was"....rather, Qadry Ismail is a "never-should've-been" The guy had really done nothing great in this league until he got to Baltimore where they had absolutely NO receivers and he really didn't even do all that great. He got his chance to work next to Marvin Harrison this season and he got beaten by REGGIE WAYNE in production. I mean here the Colts finally thought they had a decent guy opposite Harrison, and I guess they were right. They had Reggie Wayne. LOL! Just say no to Qadry Ismail. Just say YES to Curtis Conway. Also Jermaine Lewis would INSTANTLY give us one of the best return games in the league. Brendon Stai...I can't figure out why this guy keeps getting cut. He does nothing but solidify offensive lines and play extremely well. He's a distant memory to me because I wanted us to grab him real badly I think it was like 2 years ago maybe even 3 I don't remember. He's always rumored to be the best performer on whichever offensive line he heads to. But I guess if he keeps getting passed around like a 2 dollar hooker then there must be something wrong there. I'm having a bit of trouble imagining Wally Williams as a cap casualty. He was pretty damn good as far as I knew. Also, since when does Derrick Alexander have loads of talent? So overall of the list of WRs you stated the ones I like are Marcus Robinson, Jermaine Lewis, Donald Hayes, and Curtis Conway. Of the OL I like Richmond Webb, Brendon Stai, and Wally Williams. Honestly I believe the Dolphins will grab two of those guys I just listed. |

Brendan Stai was a beast for the Huskers Pipeline in their back to back national title teams in 94 & 95. That said, I think he's had a decent/good pro career with the Steelers among others. He'd be a nice back up, but we have better starters.

Here's the other positions that might interest us. I'll include the cap figure and cap savings because you can probably gauge a guys worth to the team based on those figures. 2003 Cap Figure would be like a rating of how important to the team the guy was before this year. The cap savings would be a gauge of how important he is to the team NOW....because the team would prefer to get that money back rather than have his services.
CORNERBACK.... Name....2003 Cap Figure....2003 Cap Savings CB Tyrone Williams $8.2 million $7 million CB Tory James $6.3 million $5.7 million CB Ashley Ambrose $6.075 million $3.075 million CB Corey Fuller $3.9 million $2.6 million CB Ray Crockett $3.416 million $1.750 million CB Denard Walker $4.166 million $1.5 million CB Alex Molden $2.85 million $1.45 million CB Al Harris $1.2 million $1.2 million CB Fred Weary $725,000 $575,000 SAFETY S Rodney Harrison $4.2 million $3.2 million S Anthony Dorsett $3.3 million $2.8 million S Sammy Knight $2.35 million $1.95 million S Blaine Bishop $1 million $1 million S Robert Griffith $3.512 million $775,000 S Damien Robinson $1.12 million $655,000 S Marcus Robertson $1.6 million $300,000 LINEBACKERS LB Jamir Miller $19.337 million $18 million LB Ted Johnson $6.827 million $4.456 million LB Kevin Hardy $3.78 million $2.58 million LB Randall Godfrey $8.080 million $1.919 million LB Dwayne Rudd $5.28 million $1.89 million LB Lew Bush $3.545 million $1.732 million LB Derrick Rodgers $2.85 million $1.35 million LB Charlie Clemons $1.825 million $1.325 million LB Keith Brooking $1.868 million $1.275 million LB Sam Cowart $2.5 million $1 million LB Eddie Robinson $987,500 $900,000 LB Barry Gardner $815,000 $595,000 QUARTERBACK QB Kordell Stewart $7.92 million $6.3 million QB Chris Chandler $1.522 million $688,932 JUNE CUTS DT Sean Gilbert, QB Akili Smith, QB Brian Griese, RB Emmitt Smith, LB Marvcus Patton, and CB Jason Sehorn NOTES: I think it looks like ranking these guys by their 2003 cap savings actually gives a pretty good account of their value. There are obvious exceptions such as Anthony Dorsett but there was no way he should have been taking up $3 million of room anyway. And the whole linebacker list is a little screwed up especially Jamir Miller's gigantoid $18 million dollar savings but other than that the only anomolies on the linebacker list are Keith Brooking being so low on it, Lew Bush's presence (god I didn't know he was still in the league...), and maybe Randall Godfrey should be a bit higher. More interesting though, is Sam Cowart's presence on the whole list. Cowart did well this year. He proved he could come back from his injuries. Problem for the Jets is, he signed a contract with them that paid him only $1.2 million in the first year, but a whole lot more in the second year. In fact I believe he's due a roster bonus that Mark Clayton didn't account for. Aside from that the only linebacker I like on that list is Kevin Hardy. Does anyone know if Jamir Miller is healthy or expecting a full recovery? At CB I like Fred Weary and Al Harris actually. Harris is a great 3rd CB but some team might be willing to give him a starting job. Weary, I seem to remember him performing quite well for the Saints this year. He'd be cheap competition for Fletcher IMO. At Safety its either Rodney Harrison or Sammy Knight and I wouldn't want to TOUCH any of the other dudes on the list...And of course I haven't changed my "just say no" stance on Kordella. |
