Bedard blasts Dolphin offense

http://www.palmbeachpost.com/blogs/c..._practice.html

A little disconcerting. Not enough to panic about at this point however. Did anyone else who was there see the same thing?

I think there are many teams across the league having similar training camp offensive woes. The story here in DC is the same and in Baltimore. It takes time for an offense to look sharp. Bedard is a lunatic.

Seems like all his reports of TC so far have been doom and gloom.
Keep in mind though... new HC, new offense, new OL, new QB's... it's all gonna take some time to click.

Also, a lot of our issues are coming from the right side. Drew Mormino and Anthony Alabi won't be the starters. I think after this weekend we'll see Hadnot and Shelton back there to prepare for Jacksonville next week.

If Bedard makes another comment about Alabi and Mormino on the first team being "puzzling", he should be fired.

How many times must it be addressed - DO NOT LOOK INTO THE OFFENSIVE LINE GROUPINGS. Does he not listen? Is he purposely being negative, just for the heck of it? Sheesh. Maybe he just doesnt understand the game to enlighten us further, so this takes up some space on the page.

As for the offensive woes, I think if you listen to Trent's presser today its very telling and actually makes me feel better about the whole situation. He talks about how picks this time of year are just fine. In fact, now is the time for the picks. Getting used to the wideouts, how they make their cuts, the angles on their routes etc... Green basically says that in team drills, he is going to use the opportunity to learn about his teammates. If it means throwing a pick, then thats OK, so long as its a mistake that benefits the O. Sure, he could throw the ball away if it were a game. But in freakin team drills on August 1st, why not try and get a feel for what your guys can do. Anyway, it makes a lot of sense really.

From Bedard's blog, you would think today was September 1st. Luckily its only August.

They better be. This new line needs time to gel and each day Mormino and Alabi are starting are wasted days imo.

It seems the thrust of Bedards gloom has to do with the number of interceptions the qb's are throwing. Better now than during regular season.

Oh, and one more thing. Its easy to make a blog seem increasingly negative when you make points such as:

John Beck sacked by Zach Thomas and JT. Gee, you mean a rookie QB on day five of TC cant escape two defensive phenoms? Shocker.

Or how about Akbar Gbaja Biamila blowing past Mormino. Good thing neither will be playing (Akbar likely will not even be on the roster) come September.

I didn't see anything there that 'scared' me. Green has been playing with the same guys in his offense at KC for several years, it's no surprise that his timing is a little off. He knew the ins and outs of every play KC ran and every move Tony G. and Kennison were capable of making. He needs time with Chambers, Ginn, Booker, etc.

As for the O-line, hey, we all knew they weren't great. Anyone who was surprised to hear they were struggling is in in denial about our Line situation.

Even though they were in the bubble, maybe it's the weather. I'm a firm believer that rainy, cloudy days affect people's moods and performance. Maybe the offense was actually "ok" but Bedard is a little bummed out today because of the weather.

I'll wait and see what the other camp reports say. You need a consensus about these things. That's another reason I like our finheaven camp reporters .... more "eyeballs on the ground" watching it first hand. I'm eager to hear what cashman and finsgirlie says. finsgirlie said she was going and had her camera.

Its very normal for the defense to be ahead of the offense this time of year, in the Dolphins case it is amplified by the fact that the Dolphins fielded the leagues 4th ranked defense last season(and has improved), that is going up against a whole new offense, with new QB's, a reshuffled line etc etc etc......

I could have definitely predicted the interceptions before camp began.

This is a timing and rhythm offense. Until the receivers catch on to the system and until the quarterbacks catch on to the receivers, there are going to be a LOT of interceptions.

Maybe I'm a homer but for now I'm looking at this from the positive angle. Last year our secondary couldn't pick off passes to save their lives. Given that you know this is a timing and rhythm based offense where there are likely to be a ton of errant throws in the opening months (yes, months) of the offense's installation...wouldn't you rather the defense be picking those passes off, as opposed to last year when they couldn't?

I'm not going to slam Bedard. He's telling it like it is. All he is saying, is that the offense does not yet look any better than it has in the last few years. He's been convering the Dolphins for a while now, and is out there every day. I'm sure everything will start coming together soon. The offense didn't look very good during Saban's first camp, and that actually turned out to be one of our better recent seasons offensively.
