Clayton says fins frontrunner for Pennington

John Clayton on NFL Live said Miami is the front runner for Pennington and that any negotiations would likely not begin until after the weekend.

He'll be signed and in camp by monday, they are not impressed with the qb's they have, only Henne has a pass unfortunetley, but that's how it is. Pennington,Henne and Quincy Carter as the 3rd string. Thats my feeling

Well, hopefully this is Chainsaw Charlie's last weekend as a Miami Dolphin then.

Didn't we hear this same story about Bently when he was released?

I have to say, Im not liking McCown to much right now. But, I damn sure admire how much you bash him. Its great to see someone really go after something the way you do. You might dispise McCown I mean Chainsaw Charlie as much as I do Rudy Ruettiger.

I dont remember ever hearing that we were the 'front runner' for Bentley. Interested? Sure. But nothing beyond that.

I'm sure McCown is a nice guy, but nobody will mistake him for a Rhodes scholar, and as an NFL quarterback he just can't cut the mustard. Think about this. What does Coach Sparano always talk about when it comes to the quarterback position? If you guessed that he wants a quarterback that knows how to manage the game, you guessed correctly. Now, look at Chainsaw's body of work. Does that look like someone who "knows how to manage a game?" Chainsaw throws up passes wildly into the air, which usually wind up as interceptions. He's a gunslinger and a reckless one at that.

Pennington may have a weak arm, but at least he knows where to go with the football, and doesn't take as many stupid chances as Chainsaw does. I've never been a huge fan of Chad Pennington, but with the situation the Dolphins are in, I trust him to hold down the fort a lot more than I do Chainsaw.

Clayton also wrote a piece on espn.com about how Favre will NOT get the Jets to the playoffs. He feels that they'll go 8-8.

I read yesterday that Pennington wasn't going to sign with a new team for a few days because teams are too focused right now on their games this weekend. If Miami signs Pennington, it will likely be Monday as Roth's Wrath pointed out.
