Current 3-4 and Zack Thomas

When Parcels released Zack, I believe the comment was... He wasnt the right type of linebacker for our defensive scheme...

So now that we have seen the aggressiveness of the linebackers in preseason.. Do you think Zack could have fit in ???

I think he would fit in fine. He's just a play maker with a huge heart.

He wasn't even supposed to have an NFL career and look what he's done. I never bought that brand that he didn't fit our system. He'd fit any system.

Its not that Zach didn't fit a 3-4. Its the fact that Parcells prefers bigger linebackers. When he first got to Dallas, he did the same thing. Dexter Coakley was a Probowl OLB, and Parcells let him walk because he had a smaller build.

As far as Zach specifically, I definately wanted to see him stay. However, you have to look at it from a rebulding standpoint. Zach, despite him being an amazing player, does not fit into our longterm plans. Having him on the team would have halted the development of our younger linebackers. That, plus the risk of losing him for an extended period of time again, made it in our best interests to let him walk. I'll never get used to seeing him in a Cowboys jersey, but in the long run, its the best for us......

Not quite.

While true that BP loves bigger LBers, he also loved the play of Coakley. Fact is the boys were concerned with PAYING what Coakly deserved in a new contract(cap). The Rams doubled his salary + 14mil signing bonus.

Too small Dat Nguyen was also a BP favorite and team captain because of his huge heart.

I was going to post something similar. How long was Zach here, how much of a legend will he be with the franchise? And they still can't get the name right. It's sort of disrespectful IMO if you are a true fan.

zach's a playmaker. he fits in anywhere. at the time though, between the concussions and the whiplash and the lingering migraines, i'd have been concerned for his health and safety long term if he chose to continue playing.

as a fan i still am concerned, but now he's a cowboy.

BP got rid of Zach for the same reason JT got his walking papers. Both of them were a huge part of the "old loser mentality" which the Fins needed to rid themselves of. Both those guys played with heart but I think I was going to throwup if I heard ZT whining one more time after a tuff lose. Neither of them are the leaders you want if you want to be successful.

On Hard Knocks Zach was interviewed and in the interview he said that Parcells sat him down and said, "Hey man you're gonna be 35 this season. We're gonna have to let you go."
