Derrius talks

-Wants to start
-Said Spurrier was a "different" coach than Wanny
-Says he likes the way the offense is clicking
-Says he worked for being in the NFL
-Says Griese on the team is GREAT because of depth
-Also a bowler and will challenge David Bowens to a match.
-Chambers will be moved to the slot on 3 receiver downs and Derrius to the outside

I dont know if i like the idea of chambers being our slot receiver. I don't want him going over the middle. I mean look at what happened when Kennoy Kennedy hit him last year. I would much rather watch Darrius go over the middles cuz i think he can take hits like that.

I do, he will do more of what he did in his rookie season, and that is go deep and catch more balls since he will be lined up with third down CBs.

Don't you think the Defense will recognize it and bring there better corners inside on them?

Either way someone will have a mismatch, hope we can exploit it.

Yeah but then that will leave McKnight to easily burn a 3rd down CB or for DT to be the physical guy he is and just make the 1st down grab, plus Chambers in the slot leaves us with him being able to go deep as the safeties will worry with the other two WRs.

You see the thing with Chambers is, he is a very explosive WR. When you have a guy like Chambers, keeping him on the outside all day would be stupid. He is a guy that you must find different ways to get him the ball and going in the slot is one of them. Think about it here guys. Against New York, he'll sometimes get Ray Mickens on him. The slot will definately create mismatches for other teams and Chambers will get open alot more where he can catch and run.

Chris can take the hits. But NOBODY would have got up from that Kennedy cheap shot. You get hit in the jaw like that......

Chambers in the slot is a good thing. Just look at what teams do to us. They put their best guy in the slot to try and get on Fletcher, Jerry Wilson, etc. Now, they'll have to put their best guy in the slot. And like everyone has mentioned above, most teams 3rd CB ain't that good. Thompson and/or McKnight will defeat that 3rd man most often.

Most often when Chambers is in the slot, I think it is a foegone conclusion that the defense is going to have their no.1 corner on him. However, there could be some teams out there who employ the Strategy of Miami wiht their corners. Surtain always went on the slot reciever whether it was the no.1, 2, or 3 guy and Fletcher went to the outside to cover whoever was out there bit Marivn Harrison or Joe Schmoe. Some teams might always have their nickelback cover the slot receiver regardless of if they are the number 1 or number 3 receiver on the field. If this is the case, then you have a HUGE mismatch on Chambers.

Well, you have to consider whether a team uses zone, or man coverage. Remember also, that OJ McDuffie used to be put into the slot on a regular basis and put into motion pre snap. This meant that much of the time he could avoid being covered by a teams' best corner (depending on scheme of course). I have also seen Terrell Owens being unaccounted for, due to being placed in the slot and/or motion (as unbelievable as it sounds to forget to cover Owens).

Overall, the more ways that Chambers can be used, the more difficult it will be to take him out of the game. Even Randy Moss can't get away with being one-dimensional. Where Chambers plays on third down, (3 reciever set) will be dependent on the coverage a defense employs. Turner excels at using a defenses scheme against them.

As for Chambers catching balls in the middle of the field.....this is the NFL folks. If Chambers is afraid to run in the centre of the field, or the coaching staff is afraid to use him there, this offense has problems. Heck, Clayton used to own the middle of the field, and he was about 180 lbs...Chambers is a muscular 210. Michael Irvin was the number one guy in Dallas, and he was regularly in middle territory, so expect Chambers to do the same.

I think this depends on the team and their defense. For example, the Dolphins typically don't shift their corners and just match them up on WR's - that's why you saw things like Fletcher and Marion covering Moss when he shifted inside.
