I kinda caught that feeling of the speech. But..I mean..can you blame em if he tried to throw a shot? The stadium looked like a home game. It must of made Young feel a little ****ty.

What I'm saying is that you should blame Miami, not Marino. And don't use lame articles for hardcorefootball or whatever to back up your opinion/statements. I can already see you need someone else to think for you which also is why you are probably a bandwagoner ![]() |

I must admit I spend most of my time reading posts (rather than posting) since I am usually at work when browsing the site but when one comes along a post with such stupidity I simply can't leave this one alone. It is NOT the post above that I am speaking of but what I am writing is much like this one... I am from Massachusetts and am a Diehard Red Sox, Celtics, and Bruins fan. However, right from birth I have been a diehard Dolphin fan (my family has been trying to figure out why for years and years). There are many things I don't understand about Pats fans, and I don't want to write this all day long but their general hatred of Marino is one that baffles me. For a city that seems to know it's sports rather well (it will always be a baseball town though clearly), the Patriot fans in general seem to be unable to give credit to the opposing team for anything. Maybe it's because their franchise was a laughing stock for decades who knows, but it makes me actually cheer against them even know I am from there. For years I saw battles between Jim Kelly and Dan Marino (I forget what the Patriots were doing at that time, hmmmmm...), and as much as I hated the Bills at that time, for me to state that Thurman Thomas, Andre Reed, James Lofton, Bruce Smith, Kelly, and others are overrated or not worthy of their status is just ludicrous. They were great players, hall of fame players. You have to give them their due, even if they didnt win the big game. So if Norwood hits that FG, they are so much more "great"? That makes no sense. Now don't get me wrong, what the Pats have done in the last 5 years has been amazing, period (Ok, their first Super Bowl run was a total joke but they certainly have been dominating ever since). But the funny thing is the Pats fans (which now pack Foxboro at their new stadium) suddenly claim they "were there all along." On the average, it's total BS. I was there. I went to every Dolphin game at Foxboro for 15 years straight, and often 30-40% of the stands were Dolphin fans. If you want to see a puzzled look on a New England fan, ask them who their QB was before Drew Bledsoe was drafted.......a fair question if they had in fact "been there all along." Most, you will find, have no clue. And it's not like I'm asking who their backup LT was on their '86 team either. Even as the greatest quarterback that I have ever seen gets inducted into the HOF, I have to come on a Dolphin message board and find some idiotic post about how Marino didn't do this, and didn't do that. I consider myself honored that I had a chance to watch this outstanding player for 17 years, very often in person. The way he personally dominated a game has only been equalled by a man by the name of Jordan, however unfortunately for Dan football is more of a "team" game than basketball is. A post like the one I just read is just moronic and ignorant. My apologies to the real Patriot fans, as I am sure there are some of you out there.... P.S. You may want to tell the bandwagon fans to shut the hell up though, they make you look bad. ![]()

I believe I've been more than clear on this issue. I'm NOT critical of Marino for not winning a Super Bowl. That's a team effort. Read that line over and over until it sinks in. I'm critical of Marino b/c he, like Manning, always put up his worst performance of the year in his team's biggest game. The Dolphins NEVER lost a big game where Marino played well. They NEVER lost games despite some kind of heroic Marino performance. They lost games b/c the one guy who they depended on all year laid an egg when they needed him most. Now read that over and over until it sinks into that thick head of yours. Fun history lesson: Hey do you remember Marino's playoff record versus the Patriots??? How did he do in those two games??? 1985: 20-48 (41.7%), 248 yards, 2TD, 2Int's......QB Rating=55 1997: 17-43 (39.5%), 141 yards, 0TD, 2Int's......QB Rating=29 Playoff Totals vs Patriots: 37-91 (40.7%), 389 yards, 2TD, 4Int's.......QB Rating=43 Hey, at least he was consistent. I wonder if Marino's performances had anything to do with the fact that Miami lost both games and was outscored 48-17 in the process. :rofl3:

You can thank Keith Byars for the '97 victory....he hated Jimmy Johnson so much he gave the entire playbook and all the audibles to the Pats before the game.
Danny had no chance.

Did you miss Dan's dis? I said he always admired "Young's style of play'. Not his ability or anything buy his style, meaning he's a RB that threw 5 yards to #80 running a slant in the WCO. |

However, I must disagree about the Red Sox....they have sold out that Park for as long as I can remember every night. And they had some tough years not too long ago. I will say you see "more" RS hats on these days, but the majority of us have been here for decades.

Considering the trouble the Dolphins have in selling out their home games (even in good years), you should just appreciate the fact that you've got people down there who appreciate professional football. Quote:
Until Kraft bought the team in '94, the Patriots were the laughingstock of the NFL. As far as I'm concerned, any fan base that can persevere through the kind of seasons that the Patriots put up from '89-'93 deserves MAD RESPECT. When have Dolphin fans ever been tested??? You guys have had like two losing seasons in the past 30 years. Talk about bandwagoners. Look in the mirror. I'm hoping you guys stay on the bottom for awhile, no fan base is more deserving of some humble pie. Where were the Patriots fans in those dark years between '89-'93??? I always get a kick out of that type of question. Every fan base in the world has trouble filling the seats when the fans lose "hope" in the franchise they love. I mean, when a team, any team, has an EXTENDED period of INEPTNESS, it will show up in the attendance records. I'm not talking about one bad year here or there. I'm talking about an EXTENDED period of time where the fans lose complete faith in the people running the organization. That's what happened in those dark years. The good people of Boston have proved throughout their history that they are ravid sports fans. What have Miami fans ever proven??? Another thing that's cool about the Patriots fan base is the amount of Pats fans who become involved with peripheral careers surrounding the team or the coverage of the team. The Patriots are the only team to have a fan break down their teams entire salary cap situation. Miguel at Patsfans.com does an amazing job. Then there are the fine people over at coldhardfootball facts.com. Another fine site dedicated to fighting the myths that perpetrate themselves as common opinion. Anyhow, have a great week. Good luck tonight. No injuries. );p

The Patriots have a fan who evaluates the Salary Cap Numbers?
Geez, if that isn't an example of too much spare time I don't know what is.... ![]()
