Dolphin Brass Has Some Thinking To Do Now....

Hello Everyone.... Things are not going are way...that is for sure. The Dolphin brass did not believe that the SAINTS....of all teams...would be the team to trump them...in the WAYNE GANDY Sweepstakes. But they did...and with an offer that pays GANDY 14 million bucks...within the first 3 years.
The Dolphins thought they were just in a 1-1 battle with Gandy's old team...the Steelers....never expecting the SAINTS...not without moving Lt KYLE TURLEY first....to get into the fray for Gandy' services.
This is not the end of the world for the Dolphins...but with GANDY, PETIGOUT, and ADAMS all off the board now....you can pretty much take it to the bank now.....that the Dolphins will re-sign T RICHMOND WEBB....who will be in camp this week for his physical. His biceps injury is a concern to the Dolphins....but if he passes and wants to play for around the million dollar mark....this looks like a most logical signing. I think the mindset now....is to sign WEBB....and at the very least...he should be a short-term solution....at LT.....where the Dolphins will look towards the draft for some more help at LT. Speilman believes that WEBB has some gas left in his tank...and even though the thouhgt of another year with DIXOn at LT has been mentioned....the plan all along is to NOT play DIXON at LT....plus....DIXON re-signed and pretty much let them know....he does not want to play LT anymore...bottom line.
Do not expect the Dolphins to pursue any other "name" offensive tackles.....the money that they limitly have now....will go towards signing a Wide Reciever....a Return specialist....and some linebacking help.

Some things I know...

Norv Turner is the main reason why WR DERRIOUS THOMPSON is coming in...perhaps as early as tommorrow. He actually sees him as a comparable player to Oronde Gadsden... kind of raw but did come on last season....but then...why did STEVE SUPPERIOR give up on him?

Speaking of ORONDE.....another AFC East team besides the Jets are interested....the PATRIOTS.

I have heard that the Dolphins have just a kind of last resort interest in WR DONALD HAYES...who visited last week. He supposedly is not the sharpest knife in the drawer...so to speak....which is why BELLICHEK let him go after only 1 season...

The Dolphins want to bring in FA LB KEVIN LEWIS in for a look-see this week....he played for the Giants last season...I do not know that much about him....can play on special teams....may be the answer for the departed TWAN RUSSEL role.

The Dolphins are definately interested in CB TORY JAMES...that is true....but no offer has been made yet....but one could come shortly.

The DOlphins feel that IKE HILLIARD will lean toward signing with his old ball coach....SPURRIER in Washington....or back with the GIANTS as early as tonight....

The Dolphins also were interested in TERRY GLENN....hoping the Packers would cut him outright....and waited. Well....we all know while the DOlphins pray and wait for something to happen....other teams sense the opportunity to act now....which PARCELLS did and made the trade.

The Dolphins are interested in DT JEFF ZGONINA.....if DAVID BOWENS leaves as a FA.... he played for the RAMS last season.

The Dolphins are hoping to re-sign now more than ever....TE JED WEAVER....now that DESMOND CLARK has signed with the BEARS. The plan now is for the DOlphins to make an offer to WEAVER....one that would prevent him from visiting the 49ers....who are still meneuvering to free up some cap room.

The Dolphins will not make any huge offers for a return specialist....which means that BRIAN MITCHELLS asking price is probably just not in the Dolphins reach. The most likely candidate may be CHARLIE ROGERS....with JERMAINE LEWIS wanting to return both kicks and punts...Lewis has come and gone without an offer....and that means good-bye...from where I sit.

The DOlphins are intrtigued by the BRIAN GRIESE situation....and are willing to not rush into signing any backup QB....until after JUNE 1st. The Broncos asking price right now is a #2 for Griese....and the DOlphins know this....and are not interested in doing that. If he is released...they will be interested....that is for sure.

Speaking of trading....same thing for KYLE TURLEY....a second round pick is the asking price....the DOlphins problem is this: TURLEY wants 10 milllion bucks....up front...

I have heard that the Dolphins have no interest in pursuing WR DAVID BOSTON....which IMO....would be a major difference maker....on this team.

This is pretty much the news right now.......I really believe that the DOlphins have got to go to a new plan now.....lets face it....they struck out at LT with those 3 guys...that is a setback....because that was PLAN A.

Lets face the facts here....besides the re-signing of ROB KONRAD..... thats about the most exciting thing that the Dolphins are probably happy about right now.

The main problem now is.....the TAKEO SPIKES....the ROSEVLET COLVINS....the BOSTONS....the marquee names....those that are left......signing them is a major problem...with the signing bonuses. If the DOlphins can't give ZACH THOMAS an upfront signing bonus of even 7 million...then they cant go for any of these big names left on the board. It just is not going to happen..... we really needed for ZACH's contract to get done....and this has not happened as the Dolphins had hoped....

The Dolphins treatment of WR ORONDE GADSDEN is now starting to get on my nerves. Take a look at these guys coming in.....HAYES and THOMPSON..... somebody in Dolphinland better start doing some real "evaluating". I still think that the BIG O can re-sign with the Dolphins....especailly if any offers are close to what the Dolphins have originally offered Oronde before he went on IR... But for the Dolphins.....I think now is the time to make Oronde just a little better offer....than what they have now.....at least start talking now...

I want everyone to remember this quote from WANNY.... "Once we get another WR in here to complement CHAMBERS....and with NORV"S system in its second year in place.....we are going to have one of the best passing games in the entire league".....

I would like to know one thing DAVE? How are you planning to do this?

Most likely candidates now.....are CURTIS CONWAY and MARCUS ROBINSON..... he says now....

Well....that should do it....DAVE......Lets see you sign somebody...... all of us fans are waitng for something to happen around here....

I am not particularly happy about what is going on right now....I an thinking that WANN_SPIEL is starting to feel pretty good about rolling the dice again with pretty much the same defense again....and with a little tweak here and little tweak here on the offensive side.... they are just not going to shell out any big money....they want "competition" players...

I do want to correct myself on a post about G JAMIE NAILS......I wrote it wrong.....I talked to DREW about this....and by the way....DREW just nabbed WILLIS McGAHEE.......NAILS will be ready by the start of TRAINING CAMP.....but not the MINI-CAMPS......I stand corrected. He is rehabbing nicely...and is on schedule to return in JULY...for training camp. Drew has informed me also that LEON SEARCY has officially retired.......

Screw Zach and Oronde. Zach cost us a chance to improve our offer for Gandy, and Gadsden quit on the Dolphins last year. They need to backup all their team talk now. As far as I'm concerened they are those selfish players they always describe. I'm not surprised!

Last I heard Oronde was still asking for alot of money (last year he wanted #1 reciever money to play) he is old, slow, and has bad feet. He is not worth it, it gives no pressure opposite Chambers.

Why do you think Brian Mitchell is asking for a big contract? He is 35 yrs old and the Eagles only offerred the vet. minimum. I know he visited the Giants but I have not heard of him receiving any other offers. At this point vet min plus incentives may be his highest offer.

The point about the Phins not going afte rBoston disturbs the heck out of me. MY main reason for not being upset about the Gandy situation was that hopefully they could make a run at another name player. I suppose a combo Conway and Robinson would help ease the pain. However, I would need to have both be down here, not one or the other, both.

It seemed that a lot of the news this time came off of the KFFL.com website or from various reports from this site. Perhaps that is due to the lack of activity for Miami, causing DCH to nab news from where he can find it?

I would be relieved if we can bring back Weaver to backup McMicheal. For what my opinion is worth (not much, if any) I think he is one of the most underrated players on the team and Jay seems to like him as a passing target. Plus, that would help shore up another position on the offense, which is always a good thing.

The Griese situation has me kind of wincing. It seems the same type of reports stating he will be down here for sure, were the same ones saying Gandy would be too. Last I read was that perhaps the Bears would be willing to trade for him. The longer free agency goes on, the more the asking price drops and someone will take a chance on him. I do not hold out hope for him coming here.

Yo Dirty...

I disagree on a few points...

1. I thought everyone knew the Saints intended to chase Gandy... I heard it at least a week ago, or more...

2. Mitchell is a return man, and NOTHING else... He only averaged just over 3 yards a return more than Minor, and at least Minor carries the ball and is a threat at receiver coming out of the backfield...

3. Not fair to label Hayes a bust just yet... He had Troy Brown and David Patten to compete with, then along come Branch who had a pretty good season... Then the Pats love throwing to Faulk out of the backfield as well as Smith... I'd take Hayes to fill Dedric's slot any time...

4. Who really cares about Gadsden... He's got foot problems, and if you recall, a toe problem ended McDuffie's career... How long do you think OG can play with 10 bad toes??? Let him sign for big bucks with the Jets or Pats, then go on IR in week 4...

Other than that, very good informative post...

Thanks...

I agree Samphin. Boston would be the biggest splash and the biggest improvement. Unfortunately, the Fins haven't asked me my opinion. I would also settle for Conway. Robinson would be a plus, but I'd be happy with just Conway.

I CAN TELL YOU THIS...OLIVER.

Can the DOlphins justify re-doing SAM MADISON....and JASON TAYLOR....even DARYL GARDENER got the huge bonus...the huge contract...for petes sake. Now its ZACH's contract and the Dolphins have to decide if ZACH will hold up for another 5 years... DREW is asking for 7 million bucks up-front....and he is playing hardball with the Dolphins...as he is holding up the contractof falcon LB KEITH BROOKING right up in the Dolphins faces...and is saying....match this. ZACH has not spoken out at all in this situation...but clearly....this is the #1 major reason....why the DOlphins cannot go after any real big FA names right now.... I don't want to say that ZACH is the culprit here...OLIVER....because the Dolphins could have released DERRICK ROGERS, TIM RUDDY, and TODD PERRY...too...at the same time....and gambled that they don't get much money out there...and return to the team later...at a real disounted rate. Its not really fair....just because ZACH;s contract is not done.....to sorely place all the blame on Drew's or ZACH's greediness... on why the Dolphins have gotten off to a snails start...even an anchient pacaderm has more momentum going for itself right now....an even better analogy. The bottom line: The Dolphins have got to make things happen....even if it means to release some guys....to get somebody in here....that can make a damn IMPACT. We need impact players.....not "competition" players to make it to the chmpionship game...

As for GADSDEN.....if he did return and not go for the surgery....any hit on that arm or elbow.....could have lead to a more devastating situation....and surely....he would have been on the IR anyway. It was a major risk on ORONDE's paryt.....sure he could have played.....and most of us now....probably wished he had. Everyone knows that the BIG O would have made the catch in the endzone that CHRIS CARTER dropped.....if only ORONDE decided to take that risk....

Some good points by Oliver....but we can't look back now.....like I said before......

The Dolphins better start realizing......there are many other teams out there who are in much better shape than they are....they better start getting more into the agressive mode and start making things happen... If nothing changes on this team....where there is not an IMPACT player....or 2....not brought in here.....I will tell you guys this.....

This will be the last year for DAVE WANNSTEDT here in Miami...

I really believe that he better start having the mindset...that if he does not get this team to the CHAMPIONSHIP GAME...next season......he is a goner. Forget reaching the playoffs...that will not be good enough for the fans...or for that matter...WAYNE HUIZENGA. This guy needs to start being agressive...and get some players in here who can get it done for us....

Yesterday.....I sat right next to KIM BOKAMPER at GATZBY's....as we watced ROY JONES beat the crap out of this RUIZ tomato can....and he says that he has heard pretty much the same also.... that the DOlphins need to reach the Championship game this season for WANNY to keep his job....and he also felt that if a change was made....he believed that WAYNE would not look at NORV TURNER as a possible replacement. Bokamper believes from talking to "people who are in WAYNES inner circle"...that 2 college coaches have his interest.....BOB STOOPS and JIM TRESSEL.... just passing it along....I have not heard that...but are conversation about the Dolphins....was what I remember more than what I remember of that fight....

I see where you are coming from DCH, but I don't know. Who is right is anyones guess I suppose. I just think players like Ruddy, Rodgers and Konrad have done their part in this FA session. I can't say I feel that with Zach or Oronde.

When Zach has gone on record and talked about players being on this team that are only playing for the $ and how he hates players like that. I think he should live up to his words from the past with actions of today. To this point IMO all Zach has done is talk the walk, he has not walked the walk when it comes to this point.

Oronde can be replaced, and he will be replaced by a younger and healthier player. I don't care if Gadsden returns, as far as I'm concerned the Dolphins look at him as the last resort. His actions last year are telling IMO. You don't quit on your team when they are in 1st place in the NFL. Nah man he is what he is.

A final note on Zach, I love his heart, I love his production as a player, but let's be honest here. The $'s he's asking for he can be replaced easily. Zach needs to wake up as far as I'm concerned and if we don't resign him after this year it won't bug me one bit. Not after his decision to screw the team this FA period.

Also Sam Madison, Patrick Surtain and Jason Taylor were signing their 1st big contract not their 2nd big contract. This is a very important fact when you are talking about Zach going into his 2nd BIG contract. He has had his payday he now needs to show what he's made of as far as the team concept goes. After all he hates players that just play for the $, no?

Oliver...

Because he's not Spurrier's type of WR & he was an UFA. Spurrier wants to bring in a speedy WR or two.

<<Not fair to label Hayes a bust just yet... He had Troy Brown and David Patten to compete with, then along come Branch who had a pretty good season... Then the Pats love throwing to Faulk out of the backfield as well as Smith... I'd take Hayes to fill Dedric's slot any time...>>

It's fair to label him lazy or just plain stupid for not learning New England's playbook. That's why he didn't play, it wasn't the competition that kept him out.

IKE HILLIARD A GIANT.......AGAIN.

While I am still here......

Cross off IKE HILLIARD on your FA CHarts.....he has indeed re-signed with the Giants....heres a guy who has a home down here...and did not even give the DOlphins the time of day.... not even a visit. But thats OK.... I would not say that Hilliard is the IMPACT player to make us " one of the best passing teams in the league".....like WANNY stated.

At least WILLIE JACKSON wants to play for us....that is good to know....

As far as TORY JAMES goes.....he may not get past MINNESOTA...who have so much room under the cap....they could lend the DOlphins about 2 million dollars...and still have enough money to outbid the Dolphins for JAMES.... the Dolphins going against the VIKINGS for JAMES....one has PARK PLACE and BOARDWALK type of money.....where the Dolphins look like they got one of those Community Chest Cards....and are still currently being held up in the corner jail.....and need some money to get bailed out.... geez..

I almost expect the DOlphins to call a press conference tommorrow to announce the re-signing of CB Paul Miranda....

ANd the re-signing of FB MATT KALAPINSKI....

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who would be happy with Conway. Living in southern California, I see a lot of Chargers games, and Conway is a good #2 opposite Chambers - and a #1 on lessor teams. He's the WR I've been hoping for.

As for Tory James: I'd rather have another Charger - Rodney Harrison. The guy is like having another linebacker.

The Zach situation is very disturbing - most teams would have cut him, but since we have no possible replacement, he is the most popular player on the team or at least D and the leader of our D is his bro-in-law, that w/b a PR disaster.

If we sign a Thompson or Conway and Wille Jax and keep McKnight our passing game has the potential to be mediocre though having no one solid at LT hurts for sure. OG s/b let go at this point without making a push for.

I do not see how Tory James would come here since he is one of the best CBs out there and would start for 1/2 the teams in the league.

CB Paul Miranda....:jumper:

just what we need a 4th FB

I do not see us getting Turley either since we really cannot afford to trade more 203 picks and he wants way too much money as much as I would love to have him ag the Jets

Sign Richmond ASAP - the way things are going someone else will

Well, im dissapointed that everyone is dissapointed. there are things to be considered here yes, zach is the main thing. zach is being very unzach like. I think if we were to trade him, tradedhim now! get a first rounder to
