Dolphin Digest Awards

So here's a look at the dolphindigest.com 2002 awards.
MVP Got to be Ricky Williams. After all, he did become the first player in franchise history to lead the league in rushing as he proved to be everything the Dolphins could have hoped for, and more.

DEFENSIVE MVP Another no-brainer. This goes to Jason Taylor, who led the NFL in sacks and wound up finishing second to Tampa Bay LB Derrick Brooks in the NFL Defensive Player of the Year balloting.

MOST UNDERRATED Sam Madison got a lot of grief because he gave up a few plays this season. But you know what? He was still better than a lot of the starting cornerbacks in the league.

MOST OVERRATED How did Brock Marion get selected to the Pro Bowl? Yes, he did make a few big plays, but he also gave up some big plays as well. The truth is he had an OK season, but certainly nothing Pro Bowl-caliber.

BIGGEST SURPRISE It's a close call between the performance of rookie tight end Randy McMichael and the emergence of defensive end Adewale Ogunleye, but McMichael faded down the stretch while Ogunleye remained pretty solid all the way through. So give the nod to Wale.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT The performance of backup Ray Lucas after he took over at quarterback for an injured Jay Fiedler.

BEST VICTORY Has to be the Sunday night victory at Denver. On the road. Against a team that was playing as well as any in the league. It was huge.

WORST LOSS The obvious choice would be the season finale at New England, but we'll instead choose the home loss to Buffalo because of how it came about.

Finally, we end with the positional awards:

Quarterbacks Jay Fiedler, obviously

Running backs Williams, of course, although fullback Rob Konrad had a good year

Wide receivers No one had a good year at this position, but we'll give the nod to Chris Chambers

Tight ends Has to be McMichael

Offensive line Jamie Nails was the guy who stood out the most before he was injured, but we'll give it to right tackle Todd Wade, who probably was the most consistent OL on the team.

Defensive line Jason Taylor

Linebackers Zach Thomas, although we don't think he deserves to win All-Pro honors because he simply didn't make enough big plays to go along with his high number of tackles.

Defensive backs Has to be Patrick Surtain, who is now clearly established as one of the top cornerbacks in the league.

Special teams Neither kicker Olindo Mare or punter Mark Royals had great years, and the return units again weren't spectacular, so we'll split the award between coverage guys Tommy Hendricks, Scott McGarrahan and Trent Gamble.

"Pros" and Dolphin Digest should never be mentioned in the same sentence... lmao.

I never mentioned that Sam Madison was over rated, or a bad player. I just think he didn't have that great of a season, at least when you compare it to his previous seasons. He is still a great CB, and still one of the best in the leagues. No doubt about it.

Anyways... I speak for many people here when I say that The Dolphin Digest is probably the worst source for just about any Dolphin news. They are simply because when they report the news, it already happened a month ago.

Are they serious?!?! Did you ever see Jaime Nails get his *** handed to him for games at a time??

I'm curious to see how often Wade graded out higher than Nails. I'll bet Nails beats him 13-2 or so.

I agree with all of these, except Wade. Wade is solid, but Nails was dominant.

Dolphin Digest is a very good source for Dolphin information. Topm Curits has been covering the fins for years they feature people like Hank Golderg, and have access directly with the team, coaches, and players.

Dolphin Digest is a joke. Never believe any of the garbage that comes out of their site, message board, or publication.

Pros????

You have a lot to learn about media and life!

Dolphin Digest is the official newspaper of the Dolphins. It's rugulated by the Fins and is a fluff paper for the Fins Fans. This is not an unbiased sports ananlysis publication. Their opinion is no more of a professional opinion than if you Dolphins2002 printed up a Pro football newsletter saying that Ray Lucas was the best QB in history. Just like some people believe obviously biased press releases from the White House saying that their policies are the most successful policies ever. Not that Sam isn't a good player... BAD attitude withstanding.... the reason for that mention is to throw the little premodonna a bone and attempt to save team chemistry by shutting his big whining mouth.

Well I do think you guys are saying MADISON had a horrible season when I don't think he did. I don;t think he had a BAD seaso, he didnt have a GREAT/PRO BOWL, he had a GOOD one. So what his INTs dropped and he got burned 3x. THat is still better then most only CBs to have a better season this year are....

Patrick Surtain,Champ Bailey(although he got mossed by Ike Hilliard that one game),Phillip Buchanon.

He didn't have a "Sam Madison" season and he let out a little too much dirty laundry in an interview.(even if it is true) I think he deserves most of what has been said about him. After saying all this, if we get him and Brock Marion to play up to their reputations, we will be back having the best or one of the top DB corps in football.

Sam Madison was good this year, but played below expectations. He really needs to learn how to cover Eric Moulds, or at least how to catch a ball and not deflect it into a WR.

I never said he played horrible, but he certainly did not play good. He played horrible for the 5 mil we are paying him. That is 5 mil of wasted money. We could get a CB just as good for 2 or 2.5 mil. This is a total joke. Wade better than Nails? What exactly did Wade do? Other than give up sack after sack. Both of our tackles had trouble, I mean DEs were coming out of nowhere around the corner all the time. And Wade usually gets help from the TE or a RB too.

Why don't you give most under-rated player to a guy who was a longshot to make the roster, then started, and got like 10 sacks? Ogunleye is definately the most under-rated. That one is easy as cake.

Ogunleye is by far the most underrated. Not only does he get sacks, he can stop the run and his presence allows Taylor to get more sacks as well. It is very important to have a good DE on the other side, and Taylor has it.
