We don't??? Mike Tannenbaum has had more successful drafts then Ireland has as a GM so far. Tannenbaum since he became GM of the Jets has done a outstanding job. So far on his belt he has 2 successful drafts, not counting this years draft because it remains to be seen what is going to happen with these players. But the Jets drafts in 06-07 have been great, we have gotten some really good players.
06
Ferguson
Mangold
Clemens
Eric Smith
Brad Smith
Leon Washington
Drew Coleman
All the picks that are still on our team, every player except for Clemens right now, is getting playing time.
07
Revis
Harris
Stuckey
3 quality players, Stuckey is developing into our #3 WR, if he stays healthy, he has amazing hands, and is quick and knows the position and can be a productive player. Harris and Revis both are big pieces to our defense.

Those are 2 really good drafts......

And please. Dont try and tell me that the staff didnt plan on him overtaking Bryan Thomas. He has not come along as quickly as they had hoped, which is fine, but quit feeding us this garbage about "the plan" not being for him to contribute in his first year.
That very guy will be at games booing Gholston by week 8...they'll call him GHOST-on before you know it.

Not too many tears shed over his departure out in the sandy land of the Seguras!
Well if you look at the stats Calvin Pace was up there with the top OLBS in the game. He was rated as the top LB in coverage last year by the numbers, he also had like 25 RB defeats, which is run stuffs, it was up there with the top OLBs, had the same type of QB hurries as the top OLBs...
Calvin Pace is a good player, he will prove to be a good signing, I was hesitate when I first heard that we were going after him, but once I found out more about him I got excited and thought it was a good move. He fits perfectly in our defense, and has been a monster so far with us.

We do not boo every pick?? You are thinking about like back in the day, nowadays the Jets have been drafting good. You are probably looking at that video on youtube that was a while back. We haven't booed any pick so far with Tannenbaum at GM, because he has been making smart selections that turn out to be gold lately.

And yea the reason Bryan Thomas is starting over Gholston is because Gholston isn't ready to play yet, learning an entire new position, and also Thomas has been doing good so far, and looks like he can have a good season.

I agree, the Jets have been pretty good in the draft (including some Bradway picks)

4th Rounders are gems: Kerry Rhodes, Jerricho Cotchery, Leon Washington, and now Lowery.

It feels good when an opposing team's fans are placed in this bail-out mode while our own pick is already looking good as a rookie.

Doesn't mean anything upon anything as far as what the two players will be known as by the time their careers are over, but for now, at 5:15pm on September 2nd, 2008...it's awfully nice.

You guys can win the draft war in week 1, you need your pick to start we don't. We'll see years down the road who has done a better job.

Wait. So a 4-12 team drafted a guy #6 overall, and doesn't expect him to start?!?

This is the reason the Jets are 70+ games UNDER .500 as a franchise.

He hasn't played a down in a real nfl game yet.

Agreed.

but for now, at 5:15pm on September 2nd, 2008...

Both rookies have only played meaningful games in college and Vernon has owned Jake.

it's awfully nice.
Just sayin...

Vernon will be a situational pass rusher while he learns the nuances of coverage in the 3-4 defense as an OLB. This is what we drafted him for, to rush the passer. At 21, he has a lot of room to grow as a player, but I am glad that you are so easily amused.

So a 4-12 football team doesn't need the 6th overall player taken to start. That must be because your either full of talent or full of s**t. Sorry but I don't see all the talent so it must be the latter....

Absolutely. As a Buckeye fan, it pains me that big Vern is a Jet; but I don't think it is right in any sense to judge Vernon Gholston on his rookie year. I think most teams, Miami included, that were looking at prospects like Gholston, Chris Long, and possibly Derrick Harvey as conversion 3-4 OLB's knew there were going to be some growing pains.

If things work out well for the Jets, the combo of Pace & Gholston could be Phillips & Merriman East; I'll hate to see that happen.

But, a lot of the talk of Gholston going to Miami started once Calvin Pace ended up as a Jet. Prior to that, it was mostly of Matt Ryan, the two Longs, and Dorsey. Gholston's got talent - he, like Chris Long as well, may need a longer period of adjustment to the NFL.

Good post, very honest. And you should be happy with Jake, he should man the LT position for a decade.
