My question would be, why a professional football team wouldn't/couldn't change up the audibles, in a division that you had infinite familiarity? If another team could learn your signals, why couldn't you change enough to take advantage of that? Again it points to the total incompetence of the recent coaching staffs! I could look at the tv and know what the Pats were up to, but our 'coach' couldn't. Then he had the b@!!s to blame the best player the Phins ever had. It's no wonder we are in the shape we are in. You almost can't blame the other team, for our coaches shortcommings.

I recall reading another article somewhere during last season, one of the player personnel guys was on the plane flying back home to Miami after that game... JJ was watching the game film on a small tv and caught on quick what had happened. He got so upset almost throwing the tv and yelling at Gary Stevens, with Stevens saying something to the effect "its not my fault" over and over.
Anybody else remember reading that article? Don't be upset with the pats....be upset with Byars or our coaching staff.... take responsibility for your own actions or lack there of.

Word around the league was that the Dolphins couldn't change their audibles because Marino wasn't smart enough to remember the new ones.

OK, OK...just kidding. That was just to see if I could make anyone's brain explode. The only thing that will elicit a more passionate response than poking at Jason Taylor is attacking Danny Football.

We have been a wreck since Don Shula retired. Maybe a little before.

There was a play in the 3rd quarter that I remember vividly. The Patriots lined up as if they were going to blitz. Dan Marino recognized it and called an audible. As Marino called the audible, Patriots LB Todd Collins could be seen looking over to the sideline at Keith Byers. Byers then relayed what the audible was. It was a slant pattern to McDuffie. Collins jumped the route and returned the interception for a touchdown and turned a closely contested 7-0 game into a 14-0 deficit that the Dolphins could not come close to overcoming.
It really doen't matter HOW they got our signals, if they grilled Byars for our audibles, then....

a) it is still unethical
b) it is still against the spirit of the game
c) it, in my book, it still cheating

The Pats suck and I hope Keith Byars is flipping burgers at a fast food joint

OMG ... do you really think that the Pats are the only team to do this? Hell, we've done it before.

BTW, I agree ... the Pats suck!

HA HA HA HA...this thread is making me laugh.

1. How can you enforce a penalty on a franchise for past transgressions that have nothing to do with the current coaching or front office staff?
2. We were dumb enough to cut Keith Byars and then not change our audibles.
3. Until the NFL outlaws the practice of another team signing a player that has been cut, I won't be outraged by this practice. You might have an argument if Byars had somehow duplicated his whole playbook with the corresponding audibles and just handed it over to the Pats, but otherwise it was on the Dolphins coaching staff to make sure the audibles had changed.

Wait, I understand hating the Patriots, because I do too, but Byars got cut by us because he and the coach weren't getting along. What did he owe JJ at that point? JJ fired him, allowing him to go to a chief competitor, and then didn't think that changing the audibles was a top priority. Byars is no dummy. You've got to figure he wanted some payback on old Hair Helmet...

thats the purpose of having signals...its perfectly fine to steal signals. whats illegal is using a video camera and taping signals.

you can have an artist sit on your sideline and draw pictures of the signals, its perfectly legal. any team dumb enough to use the same signals week-to-week deserves to get them stolen. its part of the game.

Well, if I were Byars I would have wanted to handout some payback as well.

The only difference would be that it would have meant nothing to me unless I did it "straight up".

It wasn't illegal but it was'nt very good sportsmanship either. We shouldn't have that problem anymore anyway.

Sounds like it was JJ's fault for this. Don't blame the Pats.
