Here's What I Think So Far

1) I think that it's great conditioning has been such a central aspect of the new regime. Back when I believed in Cam, I still had the feeling that the lack of conditioning and soft treatment of veterans was going to be a problem, and it was from Week 1 of the regular season.

2) I think that for week one of training camp, following one of the worst seasons in NFL history, things are looking decent. Not great (that can't be expected of this team for a couple years), but decent.

3) I think that since everybody should know by now that we're going to be running the ball (far) more often than not, what we should be looking for in a QB this season is consistency.

4) I think John Beck's the man. Yes, he's been consistently mediocre, but at least you know what you'll get from him play to play.

5) I think that there are going to be a lot of check down passes this season and that the running backs had better learn to hold onto the ****ing ball when it's thrown to them.

6) I think Darrius Heyward-Bey is a safe bet for Miami's first round selection next draft, whether or not the receivers learn to get open.

7) I think our defense, especially the pass rush, will manage to at least be a shadow of its former self.

8) I think that even if the defense does well this season we'll need a true #1 corner, even if it means packaging both second round picks to move into the first to get one (although given the excellent upcoming DB class, I think that unlikely.)

9) I think that the Fins don't manage more than six wins, which means that I think this season is going to suck ***. Again.

10) I think in three seasons we'll be what we haven't been since the '80s, legit Super Bowl contenders.

Most of all, I KNOW I bleed Aqua and Coral for eternity. The past five years of agony will be insignificant compared to the pure joy of watching the Fins bring the Lombardi Trophy home to its rightful place.

I agree with most of it, but I think we will either go after a CB like Vontae Davis or Malcolm Jenkins,an LB like Malauga, or even a DE/OLB like George Selvie from USF in the first round.

Well based on trend, if you are judging Beck off consistently mediocre to pure clusterf*** of unimaginable mishaps. Then I'm not sure where you want this team to go.

Sorry, im just very caustic today -_-

beck has been consistantly mediocre at best, why stick with Beck for that reason alone?

and i think we have a true #1 corner in allen

Generally speaking the first round of the draft is used to reinforce the weakest point of a unit. I don't believe you burn a first round pick on Davis of Jenkins unless the Fins are in a position where Crabtree or Heyward-Bey aren't available, especially when the DB pool for this upcoming draft is so deep that the team could easily find talent as good as Davis' or Jenkins' in the late first or second. I don't know if Malagua is a Junior clone or not but I'm not itching to find out, and Selvie won't amount to more than a situational speed rusher in this defense (which we have a far more experienced Quentin Moses for.)

The guy's pretty much a rookie (even Tony said so) and right now is trying to overcome the trauma of being thrown to the wolves last season. I'm fairly confident that between two-a-days, scrimmages, and pre-season games we'll have a serviceable QB in Beck by the time the regular season rolls around.

It's a planning and morale thing. If you know what you're going to get from Beck, you plan around it and adjust as necessary. As for Will Allen, he's a very good corner, but he's also 30 years old (IIRC).

He has consistantly blown. Not been mediocre. And we do know what we will get from him play to play......Sack, fumble, sack, pick, fumble, sack, fumble, incomplete.

You also forgot the checkdowns.

Agree with most of the original poster's post, but I think we should take Maualuga or Crabtree if we end up in the top 5 next season, and I think Henne is the guy, not Beck.

Sorry, but Crabtree isn't a superior receiver. Hell, even his highlight tape doesn't look great if you know what you're looking at. One, he's slow, so slow that linemen can run him down from behind. I've only ever seen him run four really simple routes, probably because anything more complex would require speed and shiftiness he doesn't have.

I like Heyward-Bey because his hands are at least as good, he runs every route, at 6'3"/206 he runs a 40 in the 4.2 range. Yeah, not only is he bigger than Ginn, he's faster as well. The only reason his production isn't up there with Crabtree's is that Maryland just sucks.

How come Georgia Tech DE Michael Johnson hasn't been brought into the conversation?

I agree with alot of what you said except the idea of taking a WR in the first round.

Ginn is going be worth the pick he was drafted at, you can't make that kind of investment twice in 3 years when your rebuilding a team.

CB first, like someone said Jenkins or Davis. Hoping Jenkins because he's a pure corner where as Davis is an athlete playing corner.
