Quarterback Josh McCown said he’s ready to compete for the starting quarterback job, despite suffering a cut on the index finger of his throwing hand two weeks ago that required six stitches.
“Everything’s fine. It’s a non-issue,” McCown said today. “I could have played the day it happened. Now, it’s like it never happened.”
McCown admitted he “was a little concerned” about his finger at the time of the injury.
But to make sure he was OK, McCown said he grabbed a football moments after leaving the hospital and played catch with his brother Luke in the parking lot.
McCown said the finger was sore for five or six days. “But now it’s back to normal,” he said.
This happened TWO WEEKS AGO and we are just now hearing about this? I guess Josh McCown is not high enough on the totem pole for ESPN to talk about.
I'm glad it's nothing so he won't have any excuses going into the QB competition during training camp.
The idiot got his finger cut by a chainsaw, and now that the major Miami outlets have reported this, I wouldn't be shocked too see this get some airtime on NFL Live today.
Pardon me Mr. Parrothead, with all due respect, Fiedler had a top 5/top 10 defense for the majority of his career.
Fielder also had a runner that rushed for over 200 yards in a playoff game his first season, which was the only reason (along with stout defense) that we won that game, Fiedler certainly didn't help the matter with is 3 interceptions that afternoon.(I was present).
So, Fiedler had a top defense, and 1000 yard rushers his entire career here, which is much more than Josh McCown has had at seasons in bottom feeding Arizona and Oakland.
If you want to argue that Fiedler's numbers are better, well, there is a reason, its called having a better team around you to support you.
You want to call those lines awful, yet they produced a league leading rusher and a sound running game.
My point was that McCown has better tools than Jay ever did, and is still a very young QB who still has potential, I am more excited about his potential than I ever was about Jay Fiedler, who should have sat behind Damon Huard in the first place.(As Dan Marino said).
I have to agree. Fiedler was a turnover machine. He came in at a time when JJ had really added some serious talent to this team. I think Wannys downfall was keeping Fiedler.
I think you're missing the point. Fiedler was not a good quarterback, but Josh McCown has not even been a Jay Fiedler in his career, and that is saying a lot. You guys are focusing in way too much on Fiedler, completely ignoring McCown and the fact that I made the question relative to each other and not on absolute bases.
"A Rolando McLain is a nice addition but it's merely checking off a need box, a tidy upgrade. No one in the league would be shaking if Miami suddenly has Rolando McLain. On the other hand, freak is a rarely summoned word and no one has ever questioned the legitimacy of attaching that label to Everson Griffen."

I just searched some Raider fan sights and asked their opinion on McCown and everyone said basically the same thing. McCown has great heart, will play through pain and may be a wonderful backup QB. The best endorsement he got was that he is "better then Cleo Lemon".
I am not saying that random raider fans are anymore (or less) insightful than the good people here at FH, but in a situation where he is in an open competition to be starter... I find that very depressing.
McCown and his bro are not the sharpest tools in the shed. Why would you ever handle a chain saw or anything else during your career that could end your career? Maybe he can call in a order for a chord of wood the next time he needs one. Hope he is ok.
How come there is no such term as "McCown Hater" or "McCown Basher" around here. If you say these type of things about Beck(and they apply to Beck much better) then the torches and pitchforks come out.
Speaking of torches......dont give one to Beck. He will drop it and burn down whatever building he is in or if outdoors start a wildfire that would make California look like a small campfire.
McCown has had 5 years to prove himself, while Beck has only played 5 NFL games. And McCown has proven he is not going to be a successfull NFL QB, he is at best a career backup. Even in Div I college ball at SMU he was not that good, he had a 9:16 td/ interception ratio. I don't understand why you bash Beck so much? Why would you want to start a QB who you know is medicore at best, instead of starting an unproven commodity.
I know. What a goof! Surely he doesn't find the prospect of playing for a 1-15 team THAT bad, does he? I mean, he's played for the Cardinals, Lions and Raiders so far. He should be used to that kind of quality.
I work in the sports media industry and got tipped off that Josh McCown almost chopped his finger off with a chainsaw. Early word is it is cut but no info on how bad...
