I couldn't agree more about Roby. It was shame when he left after the 1992 season and went to Washington. IMHO, out of all the punters of the mid-late 1980's, he ws the closest to Ray Guy--big, athletic, could play other positions if needed (Ray Guy and Roby were both god enough to be emergency QB's). Of course to compare Roby to Guy now seems ridiculous but Roby had a five year stretch where he was as good as any punter since Sammy Baugh. I always liked Stoy better than mare, too. To me, Stoy was the perfect combination in a kicker (much like Jason Elam)--outdoor kicker (as opposed to the great Morten Andersen who spent the majority of his career indoors), strong leg (50+ yard bombs) and accurate (this is where Joe Nedney was garbage when he was here). I remember the Stoyanovich kicks of 58 and 59 yards but the one that will stick with me is when they played Cincinatti in 1991 on MNF. Stoyanovich kicked a 50-yard field goal but THE BALL WAS STILL CLIMBING when it went through the goal post. H ewould have split them from 70 on that kick. On my list, I didn't list back-up QB's but Griese is obviously the back-up and I agree with Earl Morrall too (again, much better when he was in his younger days in Baltimore but he was priceless in 1972). When you consider our other QB choices are David Woodley, Don Strock, Scott Secules, Ron Jaworski (end of his career), Scott Mitchell, Bernie Kosar (past his prime when in Mia), Steve DeBerg (will always have a place in my heart though. that guy was a warrior), Scott Erickson, Damon Huard, Jay Fiedler, Ray Lucas, Brian Griese, AJ Feely, Gus Frerotte, Daunte Culpepper (injured), Joey Harrington, Trent Green, John Beck, and Cleo Lemon, then the no-brainer for third QB is Morrall. I could talk about this stuff all day. I hope I didn't come across as pretentious when I shot down that first guy's post but I KNOW I could put together an all-time team that is more representative of the Dolphins history. Woody bennet was adecent RB here for a couple seasons but certainly not all-time material so I didn't add him. |

I was told Ferrel Edmonds currently has some construction business and sells weed in his hometown in VA. near the NC border.

He was off one game. He did it in two consecutive games in 2002 against Chicago and at Buffalo, which he followed up with a "less" impressive 143 yard game against San Diego.

He averages 115 yards per game that year. and had 47 receptions that year too. And then to top it off, one the MVP in the pro bowl. |

Also I'd add Jamie Nails to G...he really only played one season but he completly dominated in the 2002 season until his Achilles injury the 3rd to the last game of the season.

I guess I haven't done this in a long time:
QB: Bob Griese HB: Mercury Morris FB: Larry Csonka TE: Jim Mandich WR: Paul Warfield WR: Mark Clayton T: Richmond Webb G: Bob Keuchenberg C: Dwight Stephenson G: Larry Little T: Jon Geisler DE: Bill Stanfill DT: Manny Fernandez DT: Tim Bowens DE: Jason Taylor LB: Zach Thomas LB: Nick Buoniconti LB: John Offerdahl FS: Jake Scott SS: Dick Anderson CB: Sam Madison CB: Patrick Surtain P: Reggie Roby K: Olindo Mare PR: Jake Scott KR: Mercury Morris Not many tough positions. QB is not difficult for me because I know the masochism of a pantyhose passing team. Griese would never allow us to evolve into that. TE is a problem. No one really stands out. Keith Jackson is the best specimen but when in doubt I'll always default to the guys who produced championships, hence Mandich. I may be the only one who named Geisler. He wasn't a star but we've never had a star at T other than Webb. I considered Norm Evans but I think Geisler was slightly better. Wayne Moore deserves a mention, an excellent athlete and a big guy for that era. Most simple position of all is DE. I honestly don't understand any list that doesn't begin and end with Bill Stanfill and Jason Taylor. LB is the real dilemma. Our top LBers have been inside guys, almost without exception. I prefer the 4-3 so I'm kind of stuck. Mike Kolen and Doug Swift might have been our best true OLBs. In the end I decided to use John Offerdahl with confidence he could play outside if he had to, Nick Buoniconti, and Zach Thomas because he belongs on an all time team. |
