We are looking for the best DOLPHINS.

QB: Dan Marino (Duh)
QB2: Bob Griese (Probably Earl Morral would have made QB3)
RB: Ricky Williams (He has had the top 2 seasons in Yards and the top season in touchdowns. I watched this guy run for 210+ yards in 3 consecutive games. He's the best runner in a single season we have had.)
RB2: Mercury Morris (And he also returns kicks. Other than these two, Running back has been a horrible position for this franchise post 1980. Others would include: Lamar Smith, Ronnie Brown, Karim Abdul-Jabbar, Mark Higgs, Bernie Parmalee, Tony Nathan, Lorenzo Hampton, I mean this list sucks.)
FB: Csonka (who would also make the FB spot on the All NFL team as well)
WR1: Paul Warfield
WR2: Mark Clayton
WR3: Mark Duper
WR4: OJ McDuffie
WR5: Nat Moore
WR6: Insert average at best name here.
TE1: Keith Jackson (the 2 years he played with us he was great)
TE2: Jim Jensen (Crash gets the edge becuase of his versatility. Bruce Hardy is right there as well.)
LT: Richmond Webb
LG: Larry Little
C: Dwight Stephenson
RG: Bob Kuechenberg
RT: Norm Evans

DE: Jason taylor, Vern denHerder, Kim Bokamper, Betters (Stanfill was good, too)
DT: Manny Fernandez (dominated Super Bowls 7 and 8), Tim Bowens (great when he was healthy, especially for a man with just seven toes)
MLB: Zach Thomas (Every year Zach had a few sacks, 1-2 picks and about 100+ tackles. He leads the Dolphins in Tackles by double the next person. Nick Buoniconti is also a #1, but I couldn't find any stats to really tell me, compared to Zach how well he did. Plus it's really hard to compare the two eras. Either one would work here)
OLB: Bob Brudzinski, Bob Matheson, Bryan Cox , AJ Duhe
CB: Sam Madison, Patrick Surtain (Curtis Johnson, William Judson and Terrell Buckley would be next)
S: Jake Scott and Dick Anderson (best safety tandem ever and Louis Oliver and Glenn Blackwood being 3rd and 4th. Oliver is also 4th all-time in Tackles.)

P: Reggie Roby (What a stud he was)
K: Stoyanovich (Mare might have a slight edge above Stoy, but, I hated Mare for some reason. I don't know why. Probably 1A and 1B.)

KR/PR: Mercury Morris (Wes Welker would probably be my second. I hope Ten Ginn Jr can some day be considered here)
Yeah, I have Keith Jackson but I really debated that one. For as good a player as he was, he was only in Miami for 3 seasons. He was a great player in Philadelphia. Chris Carter and Gary Clark would be on the team if you are looking at an entire career (CC and warfield would start) but CC wa sonly in Miami one season and Clark wasn't here long either.

I couldn't agree more about Roby. It was shame when he left after the 1992 season and went to Washington. IMHO, out of all the punters of the mid-late 1980's, he ws the closest to Ray Guy--big, athletic, could play other positions if needed (Ray Guy and Roby were both god enough to be emergency QB's). Of course to compare Roby to Guy now seems ridiculous but Roby had a five year stretch where he was as good as any punter since Sammy Baugh.

I always liked Stoy better than mare, too. To me, Stoy was the perfect combination in a kicker (much like Jason Elam)--outdoor kicker (as opposed to the great Morten Andersen who spent the majority of his career indoors), strong leg (50+ yard bombs) and accurate (this is where Joe Nedney was garbage when he was here). I remember the Stoyanovich kicks of 58 and 59 yards but the one that will stick with me is when they played Cincinatti in 1991 on MNF. Stoyanovich kicked a 50-yard field goal but THE BALL WAS STILL CLIMBING when it went through the goal post. H ewould have split them from 70 on that kick.

On my list, I didn't list back-up QB's but Griese is obviously the back-up and I agree with Earl Morrall too (again, much better when he was in his younger days in Baltimore but he was priceless in 1972). When you consider our other QB choices are David Woodley, Don Strock, Scott Secules, Ron Jaworski (end of his career), Scott Mitchell, Bernie Kosar (past his prime when in Mia), Steve DeBerg (will always have a place in my heart though. that guy was a warrior), Scott Erickson, Damon Huard, Jay Fiedler, Ray Lucas, Brian Griese, AJ Feely, Gus Frerotte, Daunte Culpepper (injured), Joey Harrington, Trent Green, John Beck, and Cleo Lemon, then the no-brainer for third QB is Morrall.

I could talk about this stuff all day. I hope I didn't come across as pretentious when I shot down that first guy's post but I KNOW I could put together an all-time team that is more representative of the Dolphins history.

Woody bennet was adecent RB here for a couple seasons but certainly not all-time material so I didn't add him.

The thing about Kosar that would almost make me add him to the top 5 was his effect on the sideline. The guy was basically another coach. I know we make fun of guys holding the clipboards, but he was actually valuable doing it. Keep in mind that he was the creator of the fake spike. It would be interesting to see him get into coaching (though not direct into head, like U of Miami considered not long ago).

I was told Ferrel Edmonds currently has some construction business and sells weed in his hometown in VA. near the NC border.

He was off one game. He did it in two consecutive games in 2002 against Chicago and at Buffalo, which he followed up with a "less" impressive 143 yard game against San Diego.

Oh yeah. Yer right. It was 2 consecutive 210+yrd games and then the 143. He sure was on pace. I was thinking it was 3 consecutive. I think all the hype during the game about him doing it possibly 3 times made me remember that he did it 3 times. still very impressive none the less.

He averages 115 yards per game that year. and had 47 receptions that year too. And then to top it off, one the MVP in the pro bowl.

Yes...to me the 3 I bolded were the best at the there position of all time...if Fryar would of played his whole career with Marino instead of Steve Grogan and Tony Eason his numbers would of been off the charts.

Also I'd add Jamie Nails to G...he really only played one season but he completly dominated in the 2002 season until his Achilles injury the 3rd to the last game of the season.

Oh, I was agreeing with you, which is why I put 'less' in quotes. As far as I'm concerned, in his prime and not considering his off the field issues, Ricky Williams is the best running back we've ever had.

I guess I haven't done this in a long time:

QB: Bob Griese
HB: Mercury Morris
FB: Larry Csonka
TE: Jim Mandich
WR: Paul Warfield
WR: Mark Clayton
T: Richmond Webb
G: Bob Keuchenberg
C: Dwight Stephenson
G: Larry Little
T: Jon Geisler

DE: Bill Stanfill
DT: Manny Fernandez
DT: Tim Bowens
DE: Jason Taylor
LB: Zach Thomas
LB: Nick Buoniconti
LB: John Offerdahl
FS: Jake Scott
SS: Dick Anderson
CB: Sam Madison
CB: Patrick Surtain

P: Reggie Roby
K: Olindo Mare

PR: Jake Scott
KR: Mercury Morris

Not many tough positions. QB is not difficult for me because I know the masochism of a pantyhose passing team. Griese would never allow us to evolve into that.

TE is a problem. No one really stands out. Keith Jackson is the best specimen but when in doubt I'll always default to the guys who produced championships, hence Mandich.

I may be the only one who named Geisler. He wasn't a star but we've never had a star at T other than Webb. I considered Norm Evans but I think Geisler was slightly better. Wayne Moore deserves a mention, an excellent athlete and a big guy for that era.

Most simple position of all is DE. I honestly don't understand any list that doesn't begin and end with Bill Stanfill and Jason Taylor.

LB is the real dilemma. Our top LBers have been inside guys, almost without exception. I prefer the 4-3 so I'm kind of stuck. Mike Kolen and Doug Swift might have been our best true OLBs. In the end I decided to use John Offerdahl with confidence he could play outside if he had to, Nick Buoniconti, and Zach Thomas because he belongs on an all time team.

Very good list. That includes many of the guys I considered, like Evans, Garo, Baumhower, and Duhe.
