i would take a flier on roy w as a pass rush type specialist if he was released. no way i'd take that contract or bring him in at safety.

wouldnt have to....he was drafted in 03, he'd immediately be a FA when released, so no waivers

Roy Williams wouldn 't be a bad OLB if he put on a few, but if you noticed back when Parcells coached Dallas he actually did cover. I'd like for him to be here, better than any option we have IMO, except for Yereimah Bell who can actually cover and is vastly underrated.

Thats an entirely different transition. When you play DE in a 4-3 you go up against tackles on every play and have to use technique and footwork to beat your guy. When your standing up as a olb in a 3-4 you use alot of the same techniques and moves that you do as an end so alot of it translates(whitch is why so many de's in college play olb in the nfl and vice versa). Moving from safety to a rush lb he has to learn basically from square 1 from a technique standpoint.

With out current safety situation, I think if Roy Williams came here it would be at safety. Maybe play him at the strong safety position with more of a focus on run support while playing the much faster J Allen in more of a 1 deep zone. I know the Cowboys played a 1 deep style a little bit when tuna was there.

if roy comes on the field look for teams to change to 3 WR/1 TE set to force him cover . the slot receiver and TE will have a field day with roy covering him.

he is not heavy enough to play OLB. if he does they will run right at him with a pulling gaurd who is going to knock his lights out .

vrabel was a DE who took on tackles and gaurds which is the primary request of a OLB and he developed a bit of coverage skill. He was 265 lb big enough to play OLB.roy williams need to gain 40 lbs and how the heck is going to do it so late in his life. 40lbs of muscle unless he gets a few years to build so much mass.

Linebackers in the 3-4 are basically stand up defensive ends. They have to engage 330 lbs. offensive tackles in the running game and hold their gap just like defensive ends. They have to use rip and swim moves to rush the quarterback just like defensive ends. Look at all the 3-4 OLB's in the NFL, and 85% of them were defensive ends in college that converted to linebacker. They're generally all 6'4" or taller, because they need long arms to keep offensive tackles from getting their hands on them. Roy Williams is barely 6'0.

The only way Roy Williams could possibly play OLB is if he's weakside linebacker in a 4-3 where he's just allowed to run free to the ball, like Derrick Brooks in Tampa. But even then, Roy Williams has never had to stack and shed blockers like linebackers are asked to.

And the Cowboys cutting Greg Ellis ... why in the world would the Cowboys possibly cut Greg Ellis for nothing when he's coming off a 12.5 sack season and the Cowboys are going for a Superbowl and he has a cheap salary?
