I think that they'll be watching the Cowboys very closely

if they make 6 or 7 claims, I fully expect about 4 to be cowboys, especially on defense
while i agree on the cowboys i think we're gonna also get one of their young ot's they release.

i also think that there will be more than 6 or 7 claims and changes to our 53 man by the end of cuts.

back end of the roster upgrades at olb, cb, wr, ot, nt, and guard i see coming from waivers.

i wouldnt be surprised at all either, but with so many of the former cowboys coaches on defense, I think thats where there will be the most changes

surely Sparano has his eyes on a few guys he coaches as the o-line coach

Murphy was not a second round pick that was hyped as the reason we did not pick Brady Quinn. Had we picked Murphy because we felt he was better than someone like Chilo Rachel, I'd have been pissed.

Despite us hyping the guy up, he is still very raw who many say as a late rounder UDFA who got drafted due to a great pro day. In fact, I believe everybody felt he was a reach in the 4th, and I believe he was drafted as a pet project for Mike Maser (in the sense Houck hand picked Alabi and Toledo). If it wasn't for Thomas being so good, I'd be a bit more upset about Murphy underperforming.

name some guys on the dallas d you think could be released and come here. i was thinking that corner scandrick maybe and a lb either carpenter or burnett. carpenter doesn't do much for me but parcells likes him.

pat mcquistan at offensive tackle i think will be here also.

if somehow greg ellis gets released he'll be here on the next red eye.

while a rarity certainly, there are tons of guys in their mid 20s that SHOULD NOT be competing with guys fresh out of high school
That would amount to religious discrimination against Mormons, though. Don't think that someone wouldn't sue about that.

Yea, exactly --- we whiffed on that pick (Murphy) big time it appears...

Gotta question the BP/Ireland “position spec” for an old aged undersized project on a team that needs contribution now!

Sure, I give credit for some other good picks in the draft --- but Murphy was a severe oddity to me at the time --- and has thus far proven he’s not ready for an NFL roster IMO...

We'll see.

It isn't really discrimination against anyone.

I'm not too mad about this pick if it turns out we absolutely whiffed on it. Donald Thomas is doing a great job, and we have Smiley at the other G position. Not really a big deal. I'd just make Murphy a project, see how he turns out later on down the road.

There are plenty of 4th round picks that don't make it in the NFL. Even the best drafting teams don't hit on all of their picks. If Murphy is the only guy who doesn't make it from this years draft I would call that a major success.

They will not release him except to get him on the practice squad. It is far to early to label him a bust.

I strongly believe Murphy will be cut or put on IR. Ireland said the over/under for waiver wire acquisitions this year is 15. We will definitely pickup a WR, OL, LB and DB. Possibly a second of each. A TE depending on who is available. I don't how they hang on to Murphy on the 53 man roster. There is a good chance he would clear waivers. Granted he was a 4th rounder, but a team would have to abandon one of their prospects for Miami castaway. I don't see that happening.

We have #1 waiver claim priority. I know it seems sad to risk a 4th rounder, but that clears a spot for us to claim another 5-7th rounder or vet that has shown some promise but gets squezed out by the numbers. Also, the double targeting positions and hitting with Thomas makes it easier to cut Murphy.

It would be with Mormons who go on their mission trips right out of high school.

I hate to compare, but you look at Donald Thomas right next to Carey and he looks huge. Murphy looks slim and tiny compared to the other guys out there. I might be jumping the gun, but Murphy not seeing any playing time yesterday cannot be good.

Donald Thomas is 6'3" 310 and Murphy is 6'4" 315. And you say Thomas is huge but Murphy needs to bulk up?? That makes no sense.

You can't really stash a guy on the practice squad because any team can sign a guy off the practice sqaud to their roster. I think due to the ankle injury he very well may be placed on IR and handled much like Mormino was last year.

I'm not so sure an age requirement is discrimination when you're comparing guys that are at a different part of their life playing kids that are months removed from the senior prom (I think a good amount of BYU players are married)

now, if they told the Mormon players that they couldn't go on their trips, thats a different story

I've always been confused as to the requirements of BYU, as not all football graduates are overaged. I always thought you had to be mormon, but a friend of mine at FSU was going to transfer there and he wasnt a member of the latter day saints

but I digress, as this discussion doesnt have much to do with Murphy not playing as well as Thomas
