Shawn Murphy does not Play in Win against Jags

After rewatching the Jags game I noticed something interesting along the OL. A certain Rookie we drafted this year did not play. By now it should be no surprise that Shawn Murphy has struggled, but how far has he fallen from making this team.

Shawn Murphy did not see a snap in yesterdays game. The guy first lost his job to Trey Darilek and then Donald Thomas beat both Darilek and Murphy. How far has Murphy fallen? In last night game UDFA Rookies Daren Heerspink and Myke Bryne both saw time at the OL position, but drafted Murphy was no where to be seen. In fact after our starting OL was taken out in the third quarter. The line looked like this:

LT: Ndukwe~ played much better this week
LG: Darilek~like this guy, plays every position
C: Myke Bryne
RG: Steve Mckinne~ Valuable veteran Swing Man
RT: Daren Heerspink~ has been the backup RT since day 1.

As you can see no Murphy. Every rookie drafted played in yesterdays game, except for Murphy. So my question to you Dolfans is Murphy in danger of being cut. Has this organization found much better Talent in Heerspink and Bryne?

Interesting story to follow.

On a side note: I love the addition of Jake, but Thomas looks like a freaking Monster out there. I heard one of the announcers compare him to Hadnot, but no way Thomas looks like a giant next to Hadnot and he is one very mean nasty lineman. Got to love that.

I wonder whats wrong with him? If Donald Thomas turns out to be a gem in the 6th round then i wont be that mad if Murphy doesnt turn out.

Well the line did a great job blocking today against a very good Jacksonville D-line. If there was one game where we were gonna know how good our line was, it was this one. Donald Thomas is our own Marques Colston, drafted in the 6th round from UCON the guys has been the starter at RG since week in TC.

I wont be surprised if Murphy is waived and place on the Practice Squad if he clears waivers.

Good catch. On the internet streaming feed it was somewhat blurry and I couldn't make out the interior linemen once the reserves came in. I wondered about the rotation.

I wanted linemen instead of dinky guys but Murphy was the one pick I didn't understand. Not that I followed him closely but I certainly see plenty of Utah State out here and no one stood out as a top NFL prospect. I don't even think he was first team all conference.

Maybe we can lose our fascination with older prospects who have been out of the game for years while on missions.

Im not saying the team will cut him, but last saturday when guys like Selwyn Lymon, Jon Dunlap and Keith Saunders did not play they were released. Shawn was no where to be seen and Im guesing he could be on his way out.

Miami seems to have hit on Carpenter, Bess & Thomas. Jake, Henne, Merling & Langford have looked solid and Parlame and Hilliard have been alright. So I could deal with the parting of Murphy if that is what they are planning on doing. The next cuts are gonna be very interesting. Oh and is it just me or does it seem like Boomer has beaten out Mauia.

The fullback race has been close. Last week Mauia caught 2 balls which was shocking. Last night he dropped one when he was hammered while making the catch. I am still not sure if its over, but Grigsby does have the advantage.

I don't believe they'll release Murphy. He'll end up on the practice squad and they'll try and put some upper body strength on him.

They won't release Murphy. Shawn needs a year of seasoning before he can even think about contending for a spot on that offensive line. He's needs to get a lot stronger.

They would have to waive him and hope he clears waivers. I do agree he is very undersize, extremely. I saw him next to some of the lineman in yesterdays game and he looked like a midget. Body wise he is not ready for the NFL.

I hate to compare, but you look at Donald Thomas right next to Carey and he looks huge. Murphy looks slim and tiny compared to the other guys out there. I might be jumping the gun, but Murphy not seeing any playing time yesterday cannot be good.

I agree. There's no doubt Thomas has won the job and I don't think they are too happy with Murphy. It's so nice to see a real coaching staff gettnig the right players in the right spot. It appears that BP and Co. fixed a broken OL in one offseason.

GO PHINS~!

I guess he's never been healthy because he's had only one winning season in 7 years, that included 83 fumbles, 89 INT's, & 249 sacks. That's not elite.

Culpepper's like a 7-Up commercial, never had it, never will.

Was Culpepper ever Mobile? Culpepper sacked 249 times in 7 years; Marino was sacked 270 times in 17 years. You do the math.

P.S. If he's so good why is he still unemployed???

So we can all agree that Murphy needs to bulk up, and will probably be waived so he can go to the PS. Now, which of the other lineman take his spot. I think we can all say Darilek and Mckinney will make this team, but who is going ot take Murphy spot. If I had to choose I would go with Heerspink who has been the backup RT since day 1, the kid seems to have hold on to the role. Who they will probably go with is Ndukwe who showed progression last night and can also play both G spots and C.

I think well keep both FB's.... They both have different stuff they add to the team aka one can lead block Damn good and one can play really well on Special teams...

I got my money on Mauia on 1st and 2nd downs though...

could happen, but I saw Boomer block well today. In fact the FB most of the 1st half was Boomer. Mauia didn't come in till the second half. Most of Rickys run were behind Boomer. I think Boomer has the slight edge.

Zero chance he's realeased. He's a project player and this staff does want to see if he develops.

I dont think he will be flat out released, but things right now are not looking good for him. When guys like Byrne, Ndukwe and Heerspink are getting a whole half and you are on the bench things are not looking good. They could have been experimenting, but Murphy was a 4th round pick why in the hell was he not there.

The other thing you ask yourself is Jake, Merling, Henne, Langford, Thomas, Parlame and Hilliard all played. Thomas, Merling, Langford and Bess who was an UDFa started. Why is a guy like Byrne seeing time at C and Mckinney a Veteran playing at RG, catch the drift. Murphy might have done something really wrong to not have seen one snap last night.

I had high hopes for Murphy and am not dismissing him out of hand yet. Re the Thomas/Colston comparison, hopefully also Bess will be our Wes Welker (again) though hopefully unlike SD, it won't take another team to discover that.
