Surtain ?

I've seen a few ppl put up that surtain may get cut . . Is this just wishful thinking or has anybody actually seen this on another site or somewhere . . I personally would love to see patrick return to the phins to play alongside will allen . . Even if it's only for a year or two . .

SpaceMountain16 is infamous around these parts
I'd rather move on, give the chance to a younger guy, but if Surtain is going to take a major discount which he probably will.....maybe.

I was reading somewhere that he's looking awfully slow these days. I don't think he's a fit with the new regime.

I second this...This is a new day and the Surtain we once knew is no more...however, I wouldn't mind having him as a stop gap answer if he takes a major discount because he may be better than anything we have opposite of Will Allen at this point but outside of that lets see if we can get a younger guy.

It's easy to get sentimental especially with JT now gone, but we need to move on from the past. The only reason people mention bringing him back is because of the what he meant for the franchise at one point, and if it was 32 year old past his prime Joe Smith noone here would consider it, but because its not "Joe Smith" its Pat Surtain people are saying lets bring him in. Those days are over and we need to move on. If we was still playing at a high level and wanted to come back for a 2nd run cheap id say yes but i havent heard his name mentioned as a top 10 corner in this league in a few years now, so why bother, we will always love Surtain, Madison, Thomas, and Taylor, but its time to start fresh.

I gotta say no to Surtain. The team just parted ways with Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor, what would be the point of bringing back Surtain? I hate to give Nick credit in anything, but he got value for Surtain when the time was right. Because, it seems to me he hasn't been a top flight corner since he's left Miami. It's the Pacells/Ireland/Sparano Era of Dolphins Football, the Jimmy Johnson era is dead and buried.

The key is knowing the inside scoop on his knee. When he left Miami, rumors abound that he had a degenerative knee condition. That could have just been talk, typical when a talented guy is leaving a team and everyone involved are trying to feel better about it. But, if it was more than just talk, and if it explains his apparent lack of speed, then you might have to pass.

Otherwise, if that's all just BS, then I'd re-sign him in a heartbeat. It's not like we're low on funds. He's not young, but he's not ancient, either. The Giants just won the Super Bowl with the aid of Sam Madison.

Yeah and for all that he was the starting cornerback on a pressure, blitz-heavy defense that just won the Super Bowl. He must have been doing something right.

agree to disagree on this one. i loved sam and pat when they were here. they're both shadows of their former selves now.

i personally would pass. you can't tell me that having a dominant front 7 doesn't help make up for a weak secondary. the giants front 7 was if not the best one of the best in the game. sam madison on our team with last years front 7 would be toast...even more so than travis daniels was.

my take

I also routinely watched opposing offenses go after Madison when he was in the game. Rookie Aaron Ross outplayed him. I watched Madison routinely get burnt last year. He was in the right place at the right time to get a ring, but he certainly wasnt a major reason why the Giants won. Back to Surtain, hes been average at best since he went to KC. Its rebuild time folks, not bring back vets we all like for sentimental value.

I think it could also be a matter of them playing well together as well. Sometimes two people could be amazing as a team, but when you split them up they fall apart.

correct me if I'm wrong CK, but wasn't Madison hurt most of the playoffs last year which led to Aaron Ross and Corey Webster being the CBs most of the time?
